Continue ReadingWith it now being August, it is time to shift focus to previewing the 2021 season. For the next few weeks leading up to the season, I will be doing positional previews for the class of ’23. In my opinion, the most important year for high school football prospects in terms of gaining offers and interest is their junior year. Especially this year, most college football programs will be having tights scholarship numbers due to COVID and their ’22 classes will be small. Due to this, even more eyes will be on the ’23 prospects. After previewing ’23 RBs to put on your radar in my last article, this article (part 2) will be focused on the wide receiver position. Evan Boyd
The younger brother of current Michigan State offensive lineman Ethan Boyd Ethan Boyd 6'7" | 285 lbs | OL East Lansing | 2021 State MI , Evan has the size you want at the receiver position. A contributor on the basketball court for the East Lansing Trojans as well, Boyd has a large catch radius with nice jumping ability. He shows good awareness in finding the soft spots on opposing defenses in addition to having the ability to get yards after the catch with his shiftiness. Currently listed at 6’3 and 190, it will be interesting if he has some room to grow as it is important to note that his older brother is 6’7. Whether or not he makes the transition to TE in the future, I am confident in saying that Boyd will see his offer list increase soon (current hold one offer from Central Michigan) as he will be the top passing target for East Lansing this fall.
Jamari Thomas
One of the most talked about prospects in the Ann Arbor area, Thomas is a player that has made great strides at the WR position this fall. Making the most contribution on the defensive side of the ball last season, Jamari will be a star player for Ann Arbor Huron’s team playing alongside notable 2022 player and Central Michigan commit Koen Entringer Koen Entringer 6'2" | 195 lbs | ATH Walled Lake Western | 2022 State MI . From what I have seen, he has soft hands and will be a reliable redzone target due to his physicality. Coaches are expecting a breakout season for him at the receiver position and if he builds on his progress he made this offseason where he added offers from Central Michigan and Eastern Kentucky, I believe more colleges will begin to take interest in him.
Mar’Tavion Robinson
A 4 sport athlete, Robinson is a swiss army knife type player for Waverly High as he contributes in many ways on offense as well as excelling on special teams as a kickoff/punt returner. When you take a look at his film, you will see a receiver that is tough to bring down once he reaches full speed. He has a good release where he can quickly create separation in his first few steps. At the moment, Davenport is his only offer. However, Mar’Tavion is definitely a D1 prospect that I expect FCS programs to target due to his athleticism.
Mitchell Rivard
Someone currently with no offers yet, Mitchell Rivard is a competitive receiver who contributes in all phases of the passing game. He is a guy that wants to contribute to his team however he can. Rivard has all the tools to be a college receiver. I predict that if he continues to progress at the receiver position, offers will start rolling his ways.
