Continue ReadingWith camp season being essentially over, it is now time to shift focus to previewing the 2021 season. For the next few weeks leading up to the season, I will be doing positional previews for the class of ’23. In my opinion, the most important year for high school football prospects in terms of gaining offers and interest is their junior year. Especially this year, most college football programs will be having tights scholarship numbers due to COVID and their ’22 classes will be small. Due to this, even more eyes will be on the ’23 prospects. After previewing ’23 RBs to put on your radar in my last article, this article and the next will be focused on the wide receiver position.
Semaj Morgan Semaj Morgan 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR West Bloomfield | 2023 State MI
Listed at 5’10 175, Morgan has put on a show this summer at camps and most recently had a stellar performance at Sound Mind Sound Body’s 7 on 7 showcase. He is a receiver that has savvy route running skills and shows great toughness when competing against defenders. One of the more athletic receivers in Michigan, Morgan will be the top receiving option for a stacked West Bloomfield team this fall. Currently, he has 10 offers including ones from Michigan, West Virginia, Missouri, and Ole Miss. I expect his offer list to increase after more colleges see his excellent playmaking ability throughout the season.
Jameel Croft Jameel Croft 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB Detroit King | 2023 State MI
Another receiver who plays for one of the top programs in Michigan at Martin Luther King, Jameel Croft Jameel Croft 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB Detroit King | 2023 State MI has ideal size at receiver position where he is listed at 6’2 185. Currently holding 6 offers from the likes of Tennessee, Pitt, and Kentucky, Croft runs with great power and vision along with freakish athleticism (could also play DB at collegiate level). He will be a key piece of a dangerous MLK offense with multiple P5 prospect on that side of the ball.
Jaylen Johnson Jaylen Johnson 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Grand Blanc | 2023 State MI
Out of Grand Blanc, Jaylen Johnson Jaylen Johnson 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR Grand Blanc | 2023 State MI is another receiver that has ideal size at the position as he is listed at 6’2. Excelling most in short yardage routes, Johnson is a reliable target to get a first down for his offense. Additionally, he also shows good ability to be a deep threat with his speed. Currently, he does not hold any offers but I would not be surprised if he gets some D1 attention if he takes the next step in his game this fall.
Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI
A receiver that doesn’t get enough credit for how electric of a playmaker he is, Darius Taylor Darius Taylor 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Walled Lake Western | 2023 State MI is a crisp route runner who is dangerous after the catch. Once he get the ball in his hands, he will find a way to get plenty of yards after catch with his quickness and athletic ability. At the moment, Youngstown State is his lone D1 offer. However, he is without a doubt one of the most underrated receivers in all of Michigan due to the his size (list at 5’8) being a limiting factor. If he were a couple of inches shorter, I guarantee you he would have several more D1 offers.
