Continue ReadingWith it being August and official practices starting, it is now time to shift focus to previewing the 2021 season. For the next few weeks leading up to the season, I will be doing positional previews for the class of ’23. In my opinion, the most important year for high school football prospects in terms of gaining offers and interest is their junior year. Especially this year, most college football programs will be having tight scholarship numbers due to COVID and their ’22 classes will be small. Due to this, even more eyes will be on the ’23 prospects. After previewing ’23 RBs, WRs, and TEs, this article will be part 2 to QBs to watch out of this season. Jaiden Sanders Jaiden Sanders 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB L’Anse Creuse | 2023 MI
A dual threat QB for L’Anse Creuse HS, Jaiden Sanders Jaiden Sanders 5'10" | 180 lbs | QB L’Anse Creuse | 2023 MI shows a quick release and a strong arm with a nice ability to hit his receivers in stride on deep passes. He is dangerous out of the pocket whether that means making a tough throw on the run or using his ability to scramble for a first down. This is a guy that I think has put in the work this offseason and will be someone to put on your radar this season.
Jack Bakus Jack Bakus 6'5" | 220 lbs | QB Midland Dow | 2023 MI
Standing at a commanding 6’5 200, Jack Bakus Jack Bakus 6'5" | 220 lbs | QB Midland Dow | 2023 MI has a canon of an arm (which would make sense as he is a standout baseball player as well). Bakus shows great poise in the pocket and is not afraid to stay in the pocket and get hit while making a throw. He is a tenacious competitor that will only get more comfortable after his first year on Varsity last year for the Dow Chargers.
Robert Lalain Robert Lalain 6'4" | 220 lbs | QB Divine Child | 2023 State MI
Out of Divine Child, Robert Lalain Robert Lalain 6'4" | 220 lbs | QB Divine Child | 2023 State MI will be looking to make some noise his first year as starter. Considered more a pro style QB, Lalain is a good decision maker and is able to make smart reads. He shows great timing with his receivers and has decent running ability and mobility. On film, he is quite accurate in the short passing game but I would like to see him take the next step in the intermediate/deep passing game.
Luca Prior
Two of the biggest skills that a QB needs to have are accuracy and arm strength. Both of these skills Luca Prior most definitely shows on film. Playing for Northville HS, Prior put a great touch on deep balls and can make all of the throws. Statistically, he is able to put up big numbers as he is solid in all phases of the passing game. Prior is an underrated talent that not a lot of people talk about but that will change after this season.
