With it being August and official practices starting, it is now time to shift focus to previewing the 2021 season. For the next few weeks leading up to the season, I will be doing positional previews for the class of ’23. In my opinion, the most important year for high school football prospects in terms of gaining offers and interest is their junior year. Especially this year, most college football programs will be having tight scholarship numbers due to COVID and their ’22 classes will be small. Due to this, even more eyes will be on the ’23 prospects. After previewing ’23 RBs, WRs, and TEs, this article and the next will be focused on QBs to put on your radar during the 2021 season.
[player_tooltip player_id="30316" first="Dante" last="Moore"]
Undeniably the top ’23 QB in Michigan this upcoming season, [player_tooltip player_id="30316" first="Dante" last="Moore"] is a five star talent who is right up there with Arch Manning in terms of being one of the nations elite QBs in this class. At 6’2 195, Moore is a decisive football player whose arm strength is his greatest asset. He is very accurate as last season he went 119-of-170 passes (.70) for 1,710 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also makes very little mistakes as he only threw 3 interceptions. This is a guy that truly has the physical abilities and football smarts to be a program changing QB in college. Currently, he holds 26 offers with his top choices being Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State.
[player_tooltip player_id="30322" first="Drew" last="Viotto"]
Originally from Canada, [player_tooltip player_id="30322" first="Drew" last="Viotto"] has great natural arm talent and along with a quick release. Listed at 6’4 215, Viotto served as backup to ’21 QB [player_tooltip player_id="29604" first="Zach" last="Trainor"] (now at Eastern Illinois). He can take off when needed but is considered more of a pro-style quarterback in which his game is centered around his passing abilities. Currently, he holds 4 offers from Syracuse, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. I anticipate more offers for him as he gets more film on him as the varsity starting QB this fall.
[player_tooltip player_id="30337" first="Atticus" last="Carridine"]
Out of Ypsilanti, [player_tooltip player_id="30337" first="Atticus" last="Carridine"] is definitely an under the radar QB to know this season. Splitting time with Chris Taylor throughout the 2020 season, Carridine will be the guy at QB for the Grizzlies in 2021. For his size (6’2 165), he has great ability to get first downs and more with his legs. He is a quick decision maker in the short/intermediate passing game and just knows how to make things happen with the ball in his hands. Most definitely a D1 caliber prospect, I am excited to see what he can do with him now fully in charge at the QB position.
Brady Drogosh
One of the top QBs in the Catholic League, Brady Drogosh will look to build off of his 2020 campaign after leading the Pilots to the state championship game. Drogosh puts an incredible touch on deep balls due to his impressive arm strength. It is obvious he has great chemistry with his receivers as he knows where to place the ball where only his receivers can make a catch. He has a high football IQ and is able to make smart reads while keeping composure in the pocket.
