We highlight a handful of rising senior quarterbacks in the area that are worth keeping an eye on during their final season on the prep level. Make sure to check out our article on Dallas area quarterbacks as well.
Richard Torres Richard Torres 6'6" | 210 lbs | QB Southside | 2022 State TX , SOUTHSIDE (SAN ANTONIO)
Richard Torres Richard Torres 6'6" | 210 lbs | QB Southside | 2022 State TX out of Southside High School is one of the fastest rising prospects in the state of Texas. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound gunslinger possesses a big cannon and above average athleticism. That combination puts a ton of pressure on defenses that are attempting to contain him,
There is no question about who is the best player on the field when Torres steps onto it. His command of the offense and confidence behind center is extremely evident on tape. The two-sport athlete — Torres also plays basketball — has a ton of potential that has colleges drooling.

Nebraska, Kansas State, and UTSA are three programs that have taken notice of Torres. He features a strong arm with impressive touch that should only get better with collegiate coaching. It is surprising to see how underrated Torres is in comparison to other quarterbacks around the country.
DREW DICKEY, REGENTS SCHOOL (AUSTIN)
A Vanderbilt commit, Drew Dickey is ready to succeed in the most talented conference in college football. Dickey led his school to a TAPPS State Championship and pulled in offers from around the country. Programs such as Maryland and the Commodores took notice.
Dickey stands at 6-foot-1 and tips the scales at 204 pounds. He threw for 1,861 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior en route to taking home a state title. Dickey also added 741 yards on the ground and 14 rushing scores for good measure.

Dickey has the ability, like Torres, to stress defenses in multiple ways. He can hurt you through the air, and he can hurt you with his legs. That makes him a difficult challenge for defensive coordinators.
The Regents School is in great position to win back-to-back TAPPS State Titles thanks to their impressive quarterback.
Owen McCown Owen McCown 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Rusk | 2022 State TX , RUSK
Owen McCown Owen McCown 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Rusk | 2022 State TX is the latest star passer in the McCown family. His father, Josh, and his uncle, Luke, both played in the National Football League for years before eventually hanging their cleats up. His other uncle, Randy, played collegiately at Texas A&M.
It’s easy to see the influence that his father and uncles have had on Owen’s game. The younger McCown has starred on the 4A level at Rusk, and colleges have taken notice of his talents. Currently committed to play at Colorado, the Buffalos are getting a high-IQ passer that makes life hard on defenses.
McCown transferred into Rusk from the Charlotte, North Carolina area. He threw for 1,080 yards and nine touchdowns while adding eight more scores on the ground for the Eagles in 2020.
Colorado lands a commitment from QB Owen McCown over offers from Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.
He is the son of longtime NFL QB Josh McCown who played for the Eagles in their Playoff Game against the Seahawks in 2020.

The left-handed quarterback will look to finish out his high school playing days with a bang. There’s no better place to do that than in Texas.
Cardell Williams Cardell Williams 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Westfield | 2022 State TX , WESTFIELD (SPRING)
A big theme of this list is quarterbacks that hurt you in multiple ways. Spring Westfield’s Cardell Williams Cardell Williams 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Westfield | 2022 State TX certainly fits that bill.
The Westfield star stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 170 pounds. He put together a prolific junior season last season for the Mustangs. Williams threw for 30 touchdowns, rushed for two more, and only threw six interceptions. Additionally, he totaled nearly 3,000 yards through the air.
Westfield retakes the lead when Cardell Williams connects with Jadon Tucker for the score.

Williams knows how to win big games and come up clutch in key situations. He led Spring Westfield to a 13-2 record and a berth in the 6A DII semifinals as a sophomore in his first season on the varsity level with the Mustangs.
He moves well in the pocket and makes smart decisions with the football. Texas Southern and McNeese State are two programs vying to make Williams their future quarterback.
BERT EMMANUEL, JR., RIDGE POINT (MISSOURI CITY)
Perhaps the most under the radar player on this list is Ridge Point’s Bert Emmanuel Jr. The son of former NFL wide receiver and Rice signal caller Bert Emmanuel Sr. is an athletic quarterback that presents a ton of problems for defenses to have to deal with.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound passer threw for 1,437 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior for Ridge Point. He added over 500 yards and six more scores as a runner for the Panthers in 2020. Emmanuel Jr. completed over 60 percent of his passes, as well.

Texas Southern and Army became Emmanuel Jr.’s first two offers earlier this spring. Expect Bert Emmanuel Jr. to have a big senior campaign and get on more college radars by the time that his high school playing career comes to a close.
