The Jaguars were on fire in the first half leading 20-6. During the second half, the Cougars’ defense stepped up causing a force fumble to change the momentum.
These players were the reason Carnahan was able to bounce back in order to come up with the win and advance to 2-0 for the first time since 2008. There were also players on Gateway’s team that showed out as well.
RB Carlo Holmes c/o 22. Holmes was all over the field. His speed and athleticism was able to make him break several runs. For the start of the fourth quarter, Holmes ran a jet sweep for 28 yards, that led to a touchdown. This shifted the momentum of the game big time.
RB Tracy Fauntleroy c/o 21. Fauntleroy was another asset towards Carnahan’s rushing attack. He showed great power and speed on his runs. He had two great goal line touchdowns which decreased the 20-6 league in the first half to a 24-20 league.
WR Jaylen Politte c/o 22. Politte showed off his speed a lot on kickoff returns and jet sweeps. After the Jaguars scored in the second quarter, Politte responded with an astonishing 66 yard kick off return. This helped the Cougars set up for their first score of the game.
Gateway Standouts
RB Erion Jackson c/o 21. Jackson showed tremendous athleticism on the field. He showed that he’s more than just a fast and elusive back. He can also run through defenders in order to gain more yards. Jackson ran for 101 yards.
WR Jaylan Williams c/o 21. Williams is an all out athlete. He not only plays receiver for the Jaguars, but he also played a little running back as well. Williams is blessed with speed and perfect agility. He scored three times, two of them were on the ground, and the other was a 32 yard fade. Williams is definitely a player to look out for.
QB John Conner c/o 22. Conner is the heart and soul of the Jaguars’ offense. He shows firm leadership and knows how to read defenses extremely well. Connor runs hard and he is very elusive, maneuvering through defenders. He also showed off his arm strength by throwing a 32 yard touchdown pass to Williams in the 2nd quarter to extend the lead and a 25 yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Devon Johnson. Connor will be one of the quarterbacks to look at for the fall season.
