You can check out the complete rankings RIGHT HERE. Right now, we’re taking a look and putting a spotlight on five wide receivers that have made their way onto our rankings with their play on the field this season. This list includes a few players who have jumped up the rankings and a couple that have been solidly near the top. Stay dialed into Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2022 content to be dropping over the course of the next week! [player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"] - Heritage Hall (Ranked 29th Overall) Our first wide receiver prospect is Heritage Hall’s [player_tooltip player_id="48668" first="Gavin" last="Freeman"]. Coming into the 2020 season, we knew about Freeman as a potential breakout player for the Chargers. However, based on Freeman’s size, we wanted to hold off and see what he could do in person. The size question will always be the biggest question about how much of a prospect Freeman can actually be. And after seeing Freeman in person, and plenty of film on the Charger standout, one thing is for sure, he can not only play at the next level, but at a high level. Freeman is your prototypical slot receiver that is so quick in and out of his cuts that size questions simply don’t matter. More times than not, defenders can’t get one hand, let alone two hands on the Charger speedster. I mentioned this on Twitter within the last month but you know you’re dealing with a special talent when you have a separate Hudl highlight featuring ONLY 50+ yard touchdowns. That’s a flex move that we respect. [player_tooltip player_id="61141" first="Kelan" last="Carney"] - Owasso (Ranked 73rd Overall) Our next receiver is one of the more underrated prospects in the 2022 class. Not just at the receiver position but overall. [player_tooltip player_id="61141" first="Kelan" last="Carney"] will step on the field this fall for Owasso as a four-year starter for a Rams team that has been one of the best during that stretch. Carney has been an absolute playmaker for the Rams when he’s had his opportunities. And that’s what it comes down to. He doesn’t have the stats that the other receivers on this breakdown have. But when you actually dive into the numbers, you figure out pretty quickly why he doesn’t have those numbers. Owasso is LOADED with talent at the running back and wide receiver position. They don’t have that "go to" playmaker that has the majority of the numbers. Carney is one piece of an offense that was one of the best and spread out in 2020. He has good size, speed and hands and should be a receiver on the rise with another strong offseason and senior year. [player_tooltip player_id="59991" first="Mason" last="Gilkey"] - Pawhuska (Ranked 25th Overall) Pawhuska standout [player_tooltip player_id="59991" first="Mason" last="Gilkey"] has benefitted from the high-powered offense he’s played in over the last two seasons. Gilkey has had one of the best quarterbacks in the state throwing him the ball in North Texas signee [player_tooltip player_id="38509" first="Bryce" last="Drummond"]. He’ll have another Drummond throwing him the ball in 2021 but the expectations will remain the same for Gilkey to be at or near the top of every receiving category in the state. He was one of the best receivers in Oklahoma in 2020 and it’s not just the numbers he puts up. You throw on the tape or see him in person and you see that Gilkey is a unique talent and a very good athlete. Even if he didn’t have the insane production in the stat department, Gilkey would still be considered a top 30 prospect based on his skillset, size and speed. He’s a mismatch for nearly every team they go against and because of that, he can simply "out athlete" the opponent. But he also runs crisp routes to get wide open. [player_tooltip player_id="64382" first="Oscar" last="Hammond"] - Collinsville (Ranked 57th Overall) Collinsville had several breakout stars that helped them make a run to the 5A semifinals and finished the regular season with an unbeaten record. The Cardinals will once again be a force in 2021 behind a three-headed monster of [player_tooltip player_id="51256" first="Andrew" last="Carney"], [player_tooltip player_id="61136" first="Brayden" last="Gilkey"] and [player_tooltip player_id="64382" first="Oscar" last="Hammond"]. All three are 2022 prospects and all three have the chance to be pretty special. However, out of the three, Hammond has separated himself as the best prospect of the bunch when it comes to what he can be at the college level. Hammond enjoyed a growth spurt over the last 18 months that saw him grow six inches and become a 6’3 match-up nightmare for defenders. Hammond is a player that not only has the size but he is fast and loves to be extremely physical whether he has the ball or not. He’s a great blocker but he is an absolute home run threat for the Cardinal offense. He’s also a threat to make things happen in the return game. [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"] - Edmond Santa Fe (Ranked 3rd Overall) (Committed To Oklahoma) We finish off the breakdown with the top wide receiver in this 2022 class and it’s been that way since his freshman season. Edmond Santa Fe standout and Oklahoma commit [player_tooltip player_id="38667" first="Talyn" last="Shettron"] has been not only the top receiver prospect in this class since his freshman season, he’s been one of the top overall prospects in the class. Along with Deer Creek’s [player_tooltip player_id="38666" first="Jacob" last="Sexton"] and Booker T Washington’s [player_tooltip player_id="38668" first="Gentry" last="Williams"], Shettron seems like an absolute lock to be an All American and won’t drop out of the top three anytime soon. Shettron helped lead Edmond Santa Fe all the way to the state championship game and they also won another district title. Shettron expanded his game and was even more of a playmaker during the 2020 season when he also returned kicks and would even play a little defense in key spots for the Wolves. But when it comes down to why Shettron is #3 overall in this class, it’s because he’s a can’t miss prospect at wide receiver.
