Whether it’s the Maroon Goons in College Station or Alabama’s powerful O-line, even up to The Ohio State’s fierce line, you will find Texas studs sprinkled throughout the top lines in the country. I was having a hard time picking a class, so I decided to look at the cream of the crop from both this year’s outgoing class of 2021 and what’s on the horizon with the 2022 class.
2021 Class
- Donovan Jackson Donovan Jackson 6'4" | 315 lbs | OL Episcopal | 2021 State TX (6’4/315/Episcopal) Jackson has great size and natural ability and it’s always fun and scary to see a man this large move so well. Obviously, with the 6’4 / 315-pound frame, you expect power, but the way he blocks in space and his light on his feet is clearly what separated him from the top of the rankings. The Buckeyes landed a big fish for sure with this pickup, check out some of Jackson’s highlights.
- Bryce Foster Bryce Foster 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL Katy Taylor | 2021 State TX (6’5/330/Katy Taylor)AKA The Mountain, and for good reason. Foster has a mauling mentality and bullies opponents with his raw strength and ability. Even though Foster can overpower almost anyone at the high school level, I love the fact he knows how to play smart and use leverage and angles. Also, Foster is versatile and has position flex, Katy Taylor was able to move him to multiple positions and never see a dip in production. The fact that this giant has brawn and brains will likely mean he finds his way on the field in Aggieland sooner than later.
- Tommy Brockermeyer Tommy Brockermeyer 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL All Saints Episcopal | 2021 State TX (6’6/290/All Saints Episcopal) Tommy has great length and knows how to use it, especially in the pass blocking game. Tommy has great feet and athleticism for his size, but once he gets those big paws on a defender and extends his arms, the play is basically over. In the run game, he is no slouch either, plays and blocks to through the whistle in a dominant manner. I love what I see, but I trust Nick Saban’s eyes more than mine… so I tend to think Tommy is going to do big things at the next level.
- Jaeden Roberts Jaeden Roberts 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL North shore | 2021 State TX (6’5/330/North Shore Roberts has College ready size and strength and has played both at tackle and guard. An absolute mauler in the run game with impressive speed and explosion for a big man. Steady in pass blocking, but he has not reached his potential yet in that area. Fortunate for Roberts that Alabama will more than developed any areas for growth and get the most out of this extremely talented young man.
- James Brockermeyer James Brockermeyer 6'3" | 275 lbs | OL All Saints Episcopal | 2021 State TX This center is what you look for in the position, a leader of the line that plays with a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. This is the third Alabama signee in a row to watch and he is easily my favorite. James is a tone-setter and whenever you have a center like that, the ripple effect on the rest of the line is powerful. Fundamentally James is great, clean snaps, good leverage and angles, and nice footwork that doesn’t get tangled up in trash. There is no doubt why Alabama is always in the CFP, they stock their trenches very, very well.
- Reuben Fatheree Reuben Fatheree 6'8" | 285 lbs | OL Roster | 2021 TX (6’8/305/Foster)Fatheree has so much raw potential and with his massive frame, I am still not sure how high the ceiling is for this young man. With a strong basketball background, Fatheree has some serious athletic ability and agility as you can see when he blocks at the second level. The Aggies may have something very special with Fatheree’s rare combo of huge size with a basketball player’s agility.
2022 Class
- Devon Campbell Devon Campbell 6'4" | 265 lbs | OL Arlington Bowie | 2022 State TX (6’4/265/Arlington Bowie) Campbell jumps off the tape blocking in the open field and is a violent finisher. This junior standout has great agility and speed to lead runners in the second and third levels. His upper body strength allows him to throw would-be tacklers to the ground with ease, and he still has a whole offseason to get even stronger before his senior campaign. This highly recruited young man has a ton of talent and a very high motor, Campbell’s top 3 schools currently are Texas, OU, and LSU.
- Kelvin Banks Kelvin Banks 6'5" | 285 lbs | OL Humble Summer Creek | 2022 State TX (6’5/285/Humble Summer Creek) Banks is another mobile big man with outstanding feet and a mean streak to finish plays. I love watching his tape and seeing the multi-level combo blocks where he chips the DL and then reaches his backer/BD block at the second level. Banks has great vision and anticipation to help set up his backs in the run game and a wonderful toolkit that keeps the QB clean in the pocket. There is a long list of D1 suiters for Banks, but the top two currently appear to be Texas A&M and Okie State.
- Kam Dewberry Kam Dewberry 6'4" | 315 lbs | OL Atascocita | 2022 State TX (6’4/315/Humble) Dewberry is a monster with great technique, not exactly good news for defenders. He constantly plays with a great base and good balance so he rarely finds himself out of position. Good speed and ability to reach the next level, strength, and attitude to finish blocks with authority. This recruitment is headed down the path of an all-SEC West fight over Dewberry with A&M, Alabama, and Auburn leading the way.
- Cameron Williams Cameron Williams 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Duncanville | 2022 State TX (6’6/320/Duncanville) Williams plays with good leverage and knows how to work the angles on defenders with smart seal blocks in the run game. Just because he has raw ability doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to work smart and use great technique. Plus blocker in the run and pass game as Duncanville runs a very college-ready offense. Williams has several teams after his services, including the following: Texas A&M, Baylor, Auburn, UGA. Florida State, LSU, OU, Ohio State, USC, Tenn., TCU, and Oregon.
- PJ Williams PJ Williams 6'4" | 245 lbs | OL Dickinson | 2022 State TX (6’4/245/Dickinson) PJ is athletic, lean, and mean. He plays the game with a high motor and seems to enjoy contact, which is never a bad thing for a player in the trenches. PJ has great feet that help in pass blocking and his second-level blocks and even though he is a little light, there is plenty of power and push in the run game blocking. Once the 6’4 frame fills out over the next few years, PJ will be an absolute animal and several D1 programs know it. His recruitment list includes the following: Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Penn State, LSU, Michigan, Arkansas, Baylor, Arizona State, Auburn, Texas, and Duke.
- Johnny Dickson Johnny Dickson 6'3" | 280 lbs | OL Flour Bluff | 2022 State TX (6’3/280/Flour Bluff) Johnny is an earthmover, people didn’t seem like a good descriptor when he moves groups at the same time! He reminds me of a 1970’s offensive lineman, you know the kind of guy that you would want with you in a dark alleyway. Johnny has all the tools and technique you would want, but his fierce mentality is what I love. He takes the aggression to the defense and makes way for his backs, and he does it with attitude. The right kind of attitude I might add, every football team needs a Johnny to lead them and fight for them when times are tough. Here is the list of D1 schools that agree with me: Texas A&M, Nebraska, OU, Okie State, SMU, Virginia Tech, and UTSA.
