Championship History: 3-4 (8th Appearance)
For the second straight year and eighth time in school history, Cashion is playing for the state championship. They came into the last two seasons as favorites to be playing for it all. Last year, they had to settle for silver after losing to Ringling in the title game. The Wildcats are determined not to leave Edmond on Saturday without that gold ball. Cashion made back to back championship appearances in 2014 and 2015 and had to settle for runner up in both occasions. The 2014 title game was won by Thomas. Cashion has three state championships from the late seventies into the early eighties that came in Class C.
Offensive Production: 43 Points Per Game
Cashion is year in and year out one of the better offensive teams in the state. This year, not only are they averaging well over 40 points per game, but they’re incredibly balanced. They have been torching teams all season with the pass and the run. They’ve shown that they can beat teams either way this year. Cashion has scored at least 40 points in 13 of their 15 games this season. The season-low came last week against Pawhuska. Before that, the season-low was 28 points in the regular season win over Thomas.
Defensive Production: 7.7 Points Per Game
While the Cashion offense usually gets a lot of the publicity and praise, the defense can’t be overlooked either as they’ve been one of the best units in the state. Last week’s semifinal against Pawhuska is a perfect example. They were facing an offense that averaged well over 60 points per game and held them to just six points. The defense has had four shutouts this season and has given up over 20 points on just three occasions. And in their week three clash against Thomas, Cashion gave up just seven points.
THOMAS TERRIERS (12-1)

Sept 18 – Lost To Cashion 28-7
Sept 25 – Beat Mooreland 24-0
Oct 2 – Beat Fairview 34-13
Oct 9 – Beat Hooker 17-14
Oct 15 – Beat Sayre 28-6
Oct 23 – Beat Merritt 42-13
Oct 30 – Beat Burns Flat-Dill City 38-14
Nov 6 – Beat Texhoma 13-7
1st Round – Bye Week
2nd Round – Beat Cordell 49-22
3rd Round – Beat Tonkawa 44-8
Quarterfinals – Beat Pawnee 35-34
Semifinals – Beat Ringling 28-27
Championship History: 10-2 (13th Appearance)
Thomas is one of seven programs in state history to have ten state championships in football. They are currently in seventh place in state history with ten titles. The last championship and championship appearance came in 2014 when they shut out Cashion 28-0. While Thomas is in elite company when it comes to the state championships, the majority of those titles were won decades ago. From 1947-1957, Thomas won six of their seven championship appearances during that stretch. The Terriers are back in the title game and seeing a familiar face in Cashion. These two teams met earlier this year in the regular season.
Offensive Production: 31.2 Points Per Game
On the offensive side of the ball, Thomas has taken their game to the next level after entering the playoffs. They come into Saturday’s championship game averaging 31.2 points per game but in four playoff victories that average has gone up to nearly 40 points per game. They’ll need to keep that up as they head into a championship game against Cashion where the Wildcats expect to score some points. However, the last time these two teams met, Thomas was held to a season-low seven points.
Defensive Production: 16.3 Points Per Game
The defense has certainly been a bend but not break defense as they’ve given up just over 16 points per game. And in their last two games, Thomas has survived and advanced with one point victories in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The defense will have to play some of their best football against a Cashion offense that is one of the best in the state. Thomas has given up at least 20 points in three of their playoff victories. But like we said at the start, they have been bend but not break and they’ll need to do it one more time.
