Championship History: 0-0 (1st Appearance)
Holland Hall is playing for the state championship for the first time in school history. Granted, before 2015, the Dutch had been playing in the Southwest Preparatory Conference and only competed against the schools in that conference, with the majority being in Texas. The Dutch joined the OSSAA several years ago and this is their fifth season competing. They spent the first four years in Class 2A and made the playoffs each season. After moving up to 3A, the Dutch have gone unbeaten and are playing for their first state championship in school history. At the start of the year, the Dutch expected to be here and they have found their way to Edmond.
Offensive Production: 48.9 PPG (51 PPG In Playoffs)
When we’ve written about Holland Hall this season, a lot of the content has been about their defense and how lights out they’ve been. Rightfully so, you’ll read about that unit below. But because of all the attention being paid to the defensive side of the ball, the offense has kind of been underrated this season and they’re averaging nearly 50 points per game. The Dutch have also been incredibly consistent, scoring at least 30 points in all of their games. In fact, they’ve scored at least 40 points in ten of their eleven games this season. The defense has been dominant but the offense can light up some scoreboards as well.
Defensive Production: 5.6 PPG (11.7 PPG In Playoffs)
Holland Hall’s defense has been one of the best units in Oklahoma, giving up just 5.6 points per game. That number was even better at the conclusion of the regular season. Overall, the Dutch have had five games that ended in a shutout, including their playoff opener against Checotah. However, as the Dutch have gotten further into the playoffs, the competition has gotten much stiffer. In their first nine games, the Dutch gave up a total of 27 points. However, in the last two weeks, they gave up a combined 35 points. And they’ll be facing a Lincoln team that has a potent offense. It’ll be strength vs strength.
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN BULLDOGS (12-0)
Aug 28 – Beat Beggs 36-8
Sept 11 – Game AT Vian Canceled
Sept 18 – Beat Jones 35-21
Sept 25 – Beat Pryor 61-22
Oct 2 – Beat Locust Grove 61-6
Oct 9 – Beat Westville 61-0
Oct 15 – Beat Seminole 42-13
Oct 23 – Beat Checotah 63-6
Oct 30 – Beat Webster 58-0
Nov 6 – Beat Stigler 26-7
1st Round – Bye Week
2nd Round – Beat Central 61-12
Quarterfinals – Beat Anadarko 63-20
Semifinals – Beat Heritage Hall 35-27
Championship History: 2-1 (4th Appearance)
For the third straight year, Lincoln Christian had to square off with Heritage Hall with a spot in the state championship game on the line. After losing in 2018, the Bulldogs have won the last two meetings and are looking at their second straight state championship appearance and will be fighting for a second straight gold ball. Lincoln Christian beat Plainview in last year’s state championship game and will get Holland Hall on Friday night. It is a battle between two Tulsa private schools taking place in Edmond. So people can argue about a lot of things with this match-up but we’re not here for that. These are the two best teams in Class 3A.
Offensive Production: 50.2 PPG (53 PPG In Playoffs)
When we’re wrong we’ll admit it and man we were wrong here. After Lincoln averaged 50 points per game last season on their way to a state title, we thought they would take a step back this year with a new quarterback and some new faces elsewhere on the offense. WRONG. Last year they averaged 50.3 points per game. This year, it’s 50.2 points per game and the Bulldogs haven’t missed a step. They’ve been dominant on that side of the ball all season. The Bulldogs have scored at least 30 points in 11 of their 12 games with the only exception being the regular season finale against Stigler. We got this one wrong, Lincoln just reloaded.
Defensive Production: 11.8 PPG (19.7 PPG In Playoffs)
While the defense hasn’t been asked to do much considering the offense has averaged over 50 points per game, the defense has still been one of the better units in Class 3A. The Bulldogs have been lights out when they need to be. They’ve had a couple games where they’ve given up over 20 points, especially in the last few playoff games, but they haven’t been tested like they will be on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to get stops on Friday because the offense will be playing one of the toughest defenses in the state.
