Championship History: 1-0 (2nd Appearance)
Metro Christian is making their second straight appearance in the state championship game. The only other appearance came last year, when they knocked off Vian in one of the. better championship games in 2019. The Patriots came into 2020 with a new look offense and despite a slow start against some really good teams in the non-district schedule, the Patriots have won 11 in a row and have found their way to Edmond again. The Patriots are looking for their second straight title on Saturday afternoon and to join teams like Bixby and Carl Albert who have title streaks going.
Offensive Production: 36.7 Points Per Game
Metro Christian certainly has the reputation as being one of the better offensive programs in the state. Year after year, the Patriots are near the top of the scoring charts and that’s somewhat the case this year. They come into the championship game, averaging 36.7 points per game. However, they started this season out slow with some new faces all along that side of the ball. When you look at their last seven games, basically after the halfway point, Metro is averaging nearly 45 points per game. The Patriots are coming off a semifinal where they scored a season-high 55 points.
Defensive Production: 17.4 Points Per Game
Meanwhile, while the offense has really come along throughout the season, the defense for Metro Christian has been consistent throughout. They’ve given up 17.4 points per game and they’ve also had three shutouts this season, including their first playoff victory against Rejoice Christian. The Patriots have played some of the better 2A offensive teams in the last few weeks as those numbers have gone up in the last three weeks. The Patriots will look to improve on the last few weeks and get back to where they were earlier in the season as they face Washington.
WASHINGTON WARRIORS (12-1)

Oct 15 – Beat Lexington 56-6
Oct 23 – Lost To Newcastle 49-16
Oct 30 – Game VS Crooked Oak Cancelled
Nov 6 – Beat Christian Heritage 35-7
1st Round – Bye Week
2nd Round – Beat Purcell 49-7
3rd Round – Beat Jones 26-22
Quarterfinals – Beat Adair 49-22
Semifinals – Beat Beggs 38-22
Championship History: 1-2 (4th Appearance)
Washington is making their fourth state championship appearance when they hit the field on Saturday afternoon. They are 1-2 all time in championship games in their history. The win came in 1996 when they defeated Turpin to capture the Class A state championship. They also appeared in the 2005 Class A title game in a loss to Tonkawa. The last time Washington played for it all was in 2017 when they ran into the Millwood juggernaut. In that game, they jumped out to a 7-0 lead but it was all Millwood after that as the Falcons would win 42-7. Washington is hungry to capture that elusive gold ball.
Offensive Production: 38.1 Points Per Game
Washington’s offense has been one of the better units in 2A football this season. They’ve averaged nearly 40 points per game. And when you break down their schedule, they’ve been very consistent on that offensive side of the ball. They’ve scored at least 30 points in 10 of their 13 games. They put 38 on the scoreboard in their semifinal win over Beggs. That was the most points Beggs has given up all season. And it’s tough to compare scores, especially in 2020, but Metro Christian scored just 14 against Beggs in the regular season.
Defensive Production: 16.8 Points Per Game
Similar to the offense, the defense has been very consistent this season, giving up on average 16.8 points per game. With the exception of a random non-district game against Newcastle, Washington’s defense has been lights out throughout the season. That Newcastle game was the only loss for the Warriors this season and they gave up 49 points that night. They didn’t give up over 30 points in any of their other games this year. In fact, they’ve been stuck on a number in their last three playoff wins as they’ve given up exactly 22 points in each of the last three weeks.
