OK Conference Mid-Season Report: Top Performing QBs

We’re at the midway point of the regular season and several signal-callers across the OK Conference have impressed the most through three weeks. Below I’ll break down seven quarterbacks who’ve stood out the most.
[player_tooltip player_id="30214" first="Joey" last="Silveri"], Catholic Central
Silveri has navigated Catholic Central to a 3-0 start to the season rather effortlessly, showing both his arm strength and mobility along the way. He’s an accurate passer who gets the ball out of his hands in a hurry. Silveri has shown nice touch on his deep balls and good zip on his short-to-intermediate passes. Silveri proved in Catholic’s toughest test to date against Cedar Springs that he can rip off big runs, showing he has the foot-speed to cut across the length of the field and gain a large chunk of yards.
[player_tooltip player_id="29824" first="Brady" last="Rose"], Mona Shores
What else is there to say about [player_tooltip player_id="29824" first="Brady" last="Rose"] at this point? Rose came out of nowhere last fall in the Division II State Playoffs and hasn’t been slowed down since. His play has been instrumental to Mona Shores’ success thus far, proving he may be the most dynamic playmaker in the state, let alone the area. While he’s seen as a general athlete recruit at the next level, Rose has shown he can handle the passing duties to go along with his ankle-breaking shiftiness. Rose should be in the running for any player of the year award watch lists at the halfway point of the season.
[player_tooltip player_id="29700" first="Carson" last="Gulker"], Zeeland West
Gulker has the Dux off to a 3-0 start due in large part to his efficient play at quarterback in Zeeland West’s patent Winged-T offense. The senior signal-caller has proven to be a perfect fit in the system, showing he can produce big plays with his legs and also efficiently through the air. Gulker has a college-ready frame at 6’4" and is the type of athlete that can produce positive gains even when the primary option isn’t there. Gulker has also shown he is an accurate passer on the run, making him an even bigger threat in the Dux offense.
Scharai Horton, Ottawa Hills
Scharai has shown he’s a threat to make a big play whenever he has the ball in his hands for Ottawa Hills. The lanky quarterback prospect gets downfield in a hurry and isn’t afraid to create contact. Scharai is raw as a passer but has shown good touch in the pocket as well as good decision-making when he’s on the run.
[player_tooltip player_id="29610" first="Amari" last="Crowley"], Muskegon
[player_tooltip player_id="29610" first="Amari" last="Crowley"] has long been hyped as the next quarterback in line once last year’s player of the year, Cameron Martinez went on to play at Ohio State. You can see why the masses were so excited to see Crowley begin this new era of Big Red football as he’s one of the smoothest players at the position in the state. Crowley has an effortless glide to his running ability and covers a ton of ground when doing so. He has the natural ability to make defenders miss and can cut on a dime in the open field. At times, he’s shown off his arm, dropping 40+ yard passes in the perfect window. In the red zone, Crowley has shown nice touch on fade routes.
Branden Miller, East Kentwood
Miller has used his 6’5" frame effectively in East Kentwood’s offense thus far this season. He’s shown glimpses of his arm strength to his wideouts down the sidelines on big throws as well as his ability to hit receivers across the middle of the field in crowded secondaries. Miller also presents a threat in short yard-to-gain situations as he has the strength to earn a couple of yards with his legs.
[player_tooltip player_id="29688" first="Brennan" last="Hayes"], Hudsonville
Hayes’ play has Hudsonville out to a 2-1 record in the always tough OK Red. What stands out to me about his play so far this season is his assertiveness. Hayes rarely hesitates when processing plays and makes decisions with confidence. This is evident in both his throwing and running abilities. Hayes has a live arm and gets the ball out in a hurry to his wideouts and does so with good accuracy.
