Continue ReadingThe past two weeks, I have called the players that stood out to me #BellRingers. These are players that not only answered the bell but rang one so loud no one can ’sleep’ on the anymore. But I have come to realize is that. of course, big time players stand out to and often get overlooked because they are expected to be dominant every game. So let’s move forward and call this weekly article what it truly is…the player who were the most valuable for their team on a given night. The following players were a main reason their squad got the ’W.’
RB/LB Chris Futrell Chris Futrell 5'11" | 205 lbs | LB Fort Zumwalt North | 2021 State MO , Senior, Fort Zumwalt North (5’11, 205) College coaches will tell prospects all the time, “We just need to see you play well the first three or four games and we will offer.” I am not sure there is a hotter player in the state in terms of his overall play than Futrell. Whether he is playing linebacker and making plays all over the field or as a do-it-all offensive play-maker, the senior has put his team on his back and helped his team win back to back games with game-changing touchdowns.
QB Brendan Decker, Junior, Owensville (6’, 180) Decker continues to grow as a player and fully took control of the offensive reins with a six touchdown night in a major win over Cuba. Decker had the offense hitting on all cylinders and didn’t seem to miss a play. Decker has an easy release and a rocket arm. The junior never seems to get rattled in the pocket and makes tough throws against his body look easy. College coaches will start sniffing around Owensville very soon if they haven’t started already.
DL Luke Pisoni, Senior, Fox (6’1, 205) Players like Pisoni are the reason I love high school football and writing for Prep Redzone. The defensive lineman doesn’t check all the physical attributes for a prototype college DL, but he has more than measurements can account for. Hustle, heart, toughness, leadership and a never quit attitude. High school coaches across the country win a lot of games with players like Luke Pisoni. His sack and multiple tackles for loss gave his team a major win on Friday and for that, the Fox senior get a tip of the cap and MVP nod.
RB Nate Ruble Nate Ruble 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB St. Pius X (Festus) | 2022 State MO , Junior, St. Pius X (6’1, 215) Big time players shine in key moments and Ruble did just that on Friday night versus a very good Grandview team. The junior runner accounted for 191 total yards and two long touchdown scampers to lead his squad to victory. Ruble is the type of player who consistently gets better and better with each game and off season. The growth from last season to 2020 is extremely evident and college coaches will take notice for sure, especially with MVP performances like last nights.
RB Wentric Williams III Wentric Williams III 5'11" | 185 lbs | RB Liberty KC | 2022 State MO , Junior, Liberty North (5’11, 185) The progression of a player’s career arc is always a fun process to watch. Williams III ascending factor has taken a meteoric rise in the opening weeks of the 2020 season. Another stellar performance (215 total yards and two scores) in a win over Lee’s Summit North has the junior running back forcing college coaches to taken notice. In the coming weeks, once coaches have time to check out the tape, Williams III will have multiple offers to extend in playing days past high school.
RB Daylon Kanengieter, Senior, Marshfield (5’10, 195) A lot of high school players would consider rushing for 300 yards in a season a pretty decent year. Kanengieter ran for 303 yards last night. Throw in his six touchdowns and the Marshfield senior had a game for the ages. Scary part was, Daylon probably could have added to those totals but he allowed his teammates to get in on the scoring fun. Kanengieter runs with vision, doesn’t go to the ground with just arm tackles and finishes all his runs with power. Kanengieter may never have a game like Friday’s but that performance was darn good enough for MVP honors.
RB Chanse Ford, Senior, Pierce City (5’11, 185) Like Kanengieter above, Ford had a field day in an epic game where he rushed for 307 yards and tacked on three scores. Seniors are always looked to when a play is needed and Ford has yet to let his teammates down. Shifty in and out of the hole, the senior bursts through any opening he sees and if there isn’t one there, he created his own by churning his legs and driving the pile. Ford is the heart and soul of the Pierce City squad and though I am sure he could garner this award every week, he is a Prep Redzone MO MVP of Week 3!
