Most of these athletes also play on defense and even special teams, rarely coming off the field. I have identified seven of the top senior quarterbacks from the smaller divisions in the state of Ohio that are difference makers for their program.
Conner Robinson 5’10” 185 Logan Elm
Conner Robinson is one of the most improved quarterbacks in the state between his junior and senior years. He has a quick release and is very impressive with his touch on the seam and sideline routes. Conner is a dangerous foe to the opposition due to his ability to escape from a heavy rush and keep plays alive with his scrambling and running talents. He has already thrown for nearly 1000 yards this season with 21 touchdowns, 15 passing and 6 rushing. His athleticism, intelligence, and instincts would fit in well with a college program that runs the read option offense.
Blane Huston 6’0” 170 Kenton
Kenton has a rich tradition in terms of producing top quality quarterbacks. Blaine is a perfect fit for the Kenton offense which is primarily an empty set. He must get the ball out of his hand in a hurry due to limited pass protection in this offense, which he does with machine like precision. Blaine is a very confident quarterback that sees the field and finds the open receivers consistently. He steps up in the pocket and can throw on the run with equal accuracy. Blaine is a smart field general that understands defenses and especially coverages.
Brutus Ogilvie 6’1” 190 Hanoverton United
A great first name for an Ohio football player. Brutus is a big quarterback for a school in the next to smallest division in the state. He can throw the ball on a rope when his receivers are in traffic, but also can put air under it when throwing deeper routes. Brutus stands tall in the pocket and has a good over-the-top release. Working out of a spread formation much of the time, Ogilvie proves he has poise and can take a hit from a heavy rush. Brutus is averaging 336 passing yards per game this season at a seventy-five per cent completion rate.
Logyn Ratliff 6’2” 173 New Lexington
Logyn Ratliff may have the strongest arm of any small school quarterback in Ohio. Also, a standout basketball player for New Lexington, his quick feet and overall athleticism is apparent on the gridiron. Logyn has a great pump fake as he looks defensive backs off and then goes deep. When he puts the ball away to run, he is like a running back that can break tackles with his powerful strides. Logyn has thrown for over 3000 yards in his career at New Lexington where he started as a freshman.
Ross Kuhn 6’5” 190 Ashland Crestview
Kuhn towers above the other players allowing him to see the field for a small school quarterback. Ross is a good on the field decision maker and timely in delivering the football to his receivers. He has a nice touch on sideline and underneath routes and has thrown 15 touch downs and only 1 interception at this point in his senior season. A long strider when he runs with the football, Ross shows toughness and determination. If Kuhn improves his arm strength and adapt to the speed of college football, he can find a home at the next level.
Blake Reynolds Blake Reynolds 6'4" | 180 lbs | QB Columbus Grove | 2021 State OH 6’4” 195 Columbus Grove
Another tall Division 6 quarterback that doubles as a corner on defense, Reynolds is a reliable signal caller. He can get rid of the ball quickly despite having a low and slightly sidearm release. He is especially effective, in terms of accuracy, throwing between the hashes. His size is of benefit in the run game and his coaches are not afraid to call designed zone reads and quarterback power plays. Blake is a physical corner on defense that is impressive in coming up on run support and delivering a solid hit on the ball carrier.
Michael Bevington 6’0” 175 Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy
Michael is a fun guy to watch due to the energy he brings to the game. He can wind up and fire the ball on target from the pocket or throw darts to underneath receivers while he is on the run. This speedy and agile athletic quarterback is more like a scat-back when he has the football under his arms where he makes defenders miss in the openfield. Michael runs the quarterback draw to perfection by exploding through the line of scrimmage, rarely being touched. Few, if any small school quarterbacks can be more productive than Michael Bevington. The complete package, he has thrown for over 900 yards and rushed for another 700 this season.
