After a delay due to COVID-19, the high school football season finally kicked off this past weekend. There were plenty of big time performances throughout the state, but here are some of the top performers in Oakland County from the 2021 class.
[player_tooltip player_id="29617" first="Jacob" last="Bendtsen"] | QB | Notre Dame Prep
Bendtsen accounted for five total touchdowns, three passing and two rushing, and led his team to a 38-0 victory over Saginaw Heritage. He is an athletic passer with a solid arm and he showed his dual-threat playmaking ability Friday night. He currently holds an offer from Army and has received plenty of other offers from D2 programs, but he could pick up more D1 interest with more performances like this one.
Nick Williams | DL | Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
Williams was a problem on defense in a big win over Walled Lake Western. He reportedly had four sacks and a forced fumble on the night and could become a fast riser this season. His combination of height, length and athleticism should intrigue college coaches. He holds a mixture of football and lacrosse offers to this point, but he should see more offers as the season progresses.
Jordan Hoskins | LB | West Bloomfield
Hoskins was flying around the field Friday night and racked up eleven tackles while putting some pressure on the quarterback. His performance helped hold the Oak Park offense to 14 total yards in the first half and shut down top running back recruit [player_tooltip player_id="29562" first="Davion" last="Primm"]. Hoskins is an instinctive player with a nose for the ball and should be receiving more interest than he has so far.
[player_tooltip player_id="29541" first="Rocco" last="Spindler"]/[player_tooltip player_id="29538" first="Garrett" last="Dellinger"] | OL | Clarkston
Spindler and Dellinger are the key players up front, but the entire offensive line deserves some praise after their performance against Southfield. They gave plenty of room for sophomore running back Ethan Clark to work with and allowed for the Wolves’ offense mount a 24-17 comeback victory. Spinder (Notre Dame) and Dellinger (LSU) are both Power Five commits, but [player_tooltip player_id="30321" first="Cole" last="Dellinger"], [player_tooltip player_id="29938" first="Owen" last="Foster"] and [player_tooltip player_id="29928" first="Benjamin" last="Haas"] also need to be recognized for their top tier performance.
[player_tooltip player_id="29626" first="Rocco" last="Milia"] | DB | Brother Rice
Milia was the best player on the field this game and looked impressive on both sides of the ball Saturday afternoon. He had a key interception early in the game and he scored the game winning two-point conversion when he scooped up a botched snap on an extra point. His performance earned him a preferred walk-on from Michigan. Milia has nine FCS offers, but he is a relatively underrated player that I think should be receiving more FBS interest.
