Although, the small town kids here in Arizona are not about to be slept on for long. These guys don’t have the access to prestigious training facilities or D1 scouts at their practices everyday, however, they do have grit, drive, and a big chip on their shoulder. Here are five athletes that need to be under the radar for college recruiters in 2020.
Zachary Bennett Zachary Bennett 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Coconino | 2021 State AZ , RB, 5’8″ 180lbs.
Coconino HS (Flagstaff, AZ)
Zachary is your flat out all purpose RB, he can do it all. From stretching the field with his speed, to getting those tough couple yards up the middle, he is a consistent threat. He displays an elite level of shiftiness, being able to make anyone miss without losing top speed. He makes last second cuts and possesses immense vision and lateral agility. Zachary is explosive through the hole, has great balance, and shows good football IQ. He has shown the ability to hurdle defenders, fight for extra yards, and break away so quick that he makes some DB’s look slow. Zachary is as good as any D1 recruit, and most definitely deserves D1 attention. Look for Bennett to drop some jaws in 2020.
Luis Jaramillo Luis Jaramillo 6'0" | 210 lbs | RB Flagstaff | 2021 State AZ , RB, 6’0″ 210lbs.
Flagstaff HS
Luis is big, strong downhill RB. Luis is your north-south type of back, but shows the ability to cutback if he needs to. He shows good speed for his size and frame, and is an absolute force to bring down. He runs hard and mean and consistently shows that he can put anyone on their back. Luis shows great balance through the hole, and does not give up on plays or take plays off. He excels between the tackles and does have big play ability He is an extremely tough kid and plays hard every play. Luis will have a huge role this fall, so look for him to draw much deserved attention this season.
Nate Wright, ATH., 6’0″ 170lbs.
Prescott HS
Wright is a two-way starter for coach Cody Collett and is an absolute workhorse. He is extremely athletic and can play almost any position on the field. As a ball carrier, Wright possess good speed and vision and can cut on a dime. He has the ability to read and cut off blocks very well, and is extremely dangerous once he gets into open field. He can beat defenders with his speed, shiftiness, or run right through them. On defense, Wright can fill gaps at linebacker, play as both a run support and coverage safety, and can even line up and find success at corner if needed. Wright plays full speed every play and shows no hesitation while playing fearless. Prescott kids are built different. Wright looks to have a major role and should be on every college recruiters radar this upcoming season.
Terren Green, LB/FB, 5’11” 180lbs.
Snowflake HS
Green is sparkplug of Snowflake football. With over 150 total tackles and 3 interceptions as a Linebacker last season, Green is only getting started. Green has excellent play recognition skills and a great ability to meet and stop ball carriers in the hole. He shows good pursuit and takes excellent angels to track down speedy ball carriers. Green plays like he is 6’2 210, due to his fearless and reckless ability to punish anyone who has the ball or anyone who gets in his line of vision. He can lay hat, and brings the fire to his teammates. Expect Green to be a key name in the Arizona 3A division.
CJ Scrivner, RB, 6’1″ 185lbs.
Safford HS
CJ is a very underrated player. The Southern Arizona kid is a patient yet physical ball carrier. He has enough speed to stretch the field, but is more of a threat between the tackles due to his size and downhill running style. Once CJ gets into the second level, he then shows his breakaway abilities. He shows the ability to run routes and catch the ball as well. Although CJ still has room to develop, his impressive athleticism provides him with high potential and could possibly transition to multiple other positions at the collegiate level, which gives him a huge upside for his college recruitment. CJ will have the opportunity to put up big numbers this year, which should definitely draw attention from college programs.
