Here in Southern California as the 2020-2021 season extends, coaches and players have had their distance but are eager and ready to get back to work. There are a lot of good prospects that come out of the Santa Clarita Valley. This city produces enough D1 prospects, but it has potential for more. They have former and present-day NFL players. Even some Superbowl Champions. Here are some of the best offensive and defensive players of the 2021 and up class in each of the six Foothill League teams.
Walker Eget Walker Eget 6'1" | 185 lbs | QB West Ranch | 2021 State CA |6’4”, 180| West Ranch, QB
He is one of Southern California’s best. The youngest of the three Eget brothers. (Wyatt Eget, (Azusa Pacific University) Weston Eget (New Mexico State University). He three over 3,200 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2019. Down 21 twice in a quarterfinal playoff game against Wilson, he threw 7 TD’s against Wilson to win 57-56. It was the schools first time ever reaching the Semi Finals. He can make any throw and has great pocket awareness. He only took 4 sacks all 2019. He is a Division 1 caliber QB and has offers from San Jose State, Bryant University and Western Kentucky.
Nicholas Kohl |6’0”, 190| West Ranch, WR, P, CB
Fabolous junior season. Molded very well into the offense as a junior. He was the second leading receiver tallying 860 on 44 receptions with 10 touchdowns. Precise route runner with quick feet and great hands. Underrated.
Richard Padilla Jr |6’0”, 180| West Ranch, K
Vital part of the offense and making a clutch PAT in the quarter-final to tie the game in crunch time. He finished with 61-for-69 on PATS and 3-for-5 field goals. He even made a touchdown saving tackle in one of the games. He has a strong leg and is accurate. Also plays soccer. Made the All-SCV offense list.
Nick Aquino |5’11”, 230| West Ranch, LB
A transfer from Hart High School. Started all 13 games as a junior. Very vocal as a leader in his defensive unit. He will run the West Ranch defense as an MLB in the 20-21 season. He should have a big year with deep playoff experience runs. Honorable mention in 2019.
Colton Fitzgerald |6’2”, 195| Saugus, QB
Another great SoCal QB who had a solid junior season. He threw over 2200 yards and 17 touchdowns. Even with the horrific incident that happened at Saugus, he was a strong leader for his team and never backed down. He has a strong and accurate arm and a competitor. A D1 caliber QB. He should have a great senior year in the upcoming 20-21 season.
Robert Vega | 6’1”, 195| Saugus, SS, WR
Second team all Foothill League in defense as a Junior. He had a total of 68 tackles, 36 solo and 1 interception. He averaged 7.6 tackles a game in 2019. Plays WR as well. Fierce hitter and he can cover a lot of ground. Physical SS and smart in the backfield.
Vincent Casillas | 6’5”, 270| Valencia, OL
Helped Valencia rank second in passing in the Foothill League. D1 caliber body. He should be one of the top linemen in the 20-21 season. 2019 All-SCV offense.
Zamondre Merriweather |6’4”, 200| Valencia, WR
First team All-Foothill League as a sophomore. Coming in as the only sophomore on the list. He tallied 533 yards on 32 catches with 5 touchdowns. He can do it all and line up inside or outside as a wide receiver. A big body playmaking WR for Valencia who had a stellar sophomore season.
Dean Miller | 6’0”, 200| Valencia, DL
Playing against the best team in a Division 1 schedule, Dean Miller landed himself on the First team All Foothill league as a junior. He transitioned from LB to DE a little over halfway through the season and excelled. He had a four-sack performance against Golden Valley.
Ty Morrison | 6’3”, 190| Valencia, K
His hero moment came when he knocked out the Hart Indians in the last seconds of the game chipping in a 27-yard field goal to go undefeated in league. He went 35-for-40 on PATS and 6-of-12 field goals.
Ryan Tomaszewski | 5’11”, 180| Hart, WR
The second favorite target of Zach Johnson (Cal) receiving 486 yards with 37 receptions. He should have a strong senior season becoming their top wideout in the 20-21 season.
Dylan Vradenburg | 6’3”, 220| Hart, DL
He had 87 total tackles, 25 solo and 6 sacks in 2019. Second team All Foothill League selection as a junior. He had four- sack performance against Muir. His combination of physical strength and speed disrupted many opposing offenses. He also plays TE on offense. Very physical defensive end who has a high motor.
Jacob Cipperly | 5’11”, 165| Golden Valley, DB
A first-year varsity player who made an instant impact for the team that went 8-2 in 2019. He had a total of 35 tackles and 4 interceptions. His 4 Interception ranked third in the Foothill League. Selected as a Second Team All Foothill League defense.
Raysean Gilmore |6’4”, 215| Golden Valley, DL
He was a problem in the trenches. With his 6’4 size and frame with his athletic abilities he was able to disrupt a lot of offenses in the 2019. He finished the year with 39 tackles with 4 tackle for losses and 3 sacks and will be a vital part of the Grizzlies defense in the 20-21 season.
Luke McCoy | 5’10”, 190| Golden Valley, QB, MLB
Tough as nails. He took every play and went full speed with it in 201. He had success in the Wildcat formation rushing for 61 times for 319 yards with 9 touchdowns. He never left the field on defense and ended his junior season with 64 total tackles 6 tackles for loss and a sack. He also had 3 interceptions and scooped up 2 fumble recoveries.
Jarret Reeser | 5’10”, 170| Canyon, P
The junior punter was named to the 2019 California All-State First Team after leading the league in average yards per punt with 47.1 yards and totaled 2,357 yards on 50 punts. Recorded 30 punts inside the 20-yard line in 11 games played. His season long was a 71-yard punt.
Angel Vasquez | 6’3”, 200| Canyon, DL
In his first year he proved that he was an opposing defensive end with 73 total tackles and 43 solo. He also had 2 sacks and 1 interception. He had a 13-tackle performance game against Palmdale.
Colin Figueroa | 5’10”, 155| Canyon, WR
The second-best receiver on the 2019 squad. He had a successful junior campaign collecting 760 on 52 receptions. One of the key targets for the Cowboys offense. He caught 6 touchdowns and made the All-SCV offense list.
Hunter Girch | 6’3″, 206| Saugus, WR,
Reeling in 292 yards on 20 receptions tells you this WR has sticky hands. Solid route and has great hands. A go up and get it type receiver. Although he only had 1 touchdown, he was a steady play maker. 3.45 GPA student.
Tyler Voss Tyler Voss 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Valencia | 2022 State CA | 6’2″, 180| Valencia, QB
3-star QB out of Valencia High. He is a Pro Style QB. Great mobility and stands tall in the pocket. He has an exceptionally good arm strength and is accurate with a quick release. Rhythmic passer. Has an offer from FAU. He will be the starting QB for the Valencia Vikings in the 20-21 season.
Carlos Meza | 6’3”, 206| Golden Valley, ATH, SS, OLB
Second team All-Foothill League. He had 60 total tackles with 37 solo tackles. He snagged 3 interceptions 3 tackles for loss. On offense he had 180 yards on 11 receptions with 1 touchdown.
Brandon Thompkins |6’0”, 170| Valencia, WR, FS
Played varsity football as a freshman. Former studs like Tedric Thompson (Seattle Seahawks) started as a freshman as well. Thompkins as a sophomore reeled in 184 yards on 10 receptions in a deep Valencia offense. Him and Zamondre should have a monster season in 20-21 as the two leaders in that offensive unit.
