A burner running back is someone that has so much speed they just buzz on by you like you are not even there. Freeburg defines this term and is a one-cut downhill runner that just attacks defensive lines with his toughness and strength. “I like to use my physicality at the end of runs to impose my will on defense and wear them down as the game goes on,” Freeburg said about his running style to Prep Redzone.
The Love of Running Back
Freeburg loves playing running back because he fits the description: a position meant for blue-collar, hard-nosed football players. Freeburg made a great point in this, every fan loves the big 80-yard run to the end zone, but it is those shorter gains that wear down the defense and keep your team moving down the field that matter most. “You have to have a grinder mentality at this position,” Freeburg said as he embraces the work ethic it takes to be a running back at a powerhouse like Lakeville North.
Recruiting Interest/Elevator Pitch
Freeburg already has some offers at the next level but his recruiting is still warm and wide open. He has offers from Bemidji, University of Mary, Grandview, UW-River Falls, Concordia-Moorhead, Hamline, and Simpson College. “Sioux Falls and Columbia (NY) have come in heavy as of late” Logan told PRZ Minnesota along with plenty of other Division I, Division II, and Division III programs.
For Freeburg’s elevator pitch to those that may be reading this Saturday afternoon, he had this to say:
My pitch to coaches of what I can bring to a program is my work ethic and my will to get things done. I am always finding ways to get better on and off the field and take every day as an opportunity to get better. I’m the kind of player that will put in the extra work, not just for myself, but because I know that as I am making myself better, and I am also making my team better.
Offseason Work Ons
Lakeville North’s coaching staff put a strong emphasis on putting on weight going into next season and so far, Freeburg has put on 30 pounds of muscle in lifting 5-6 times per week. With that muscle, Freeburg has done a ton of speed training to make sure he is putting on functional muscle with his offseason training. As far as on the field drills, Freeburg has hit a point of emphasis on connecting with his new quarterback on catching the ball out of the backfield which is something he has worked a ton on this offseason.
A Mentor as a Dad
Someone that has never missed a football game since Logan Freeburg Logan Freeburg 5'9" | RB Lakeville North | 2021 State MN picked up a football has been his father, who is the biggest mentor is his every day and football life. His dad has been his biggest encourager of him doing his best no matter what it is he is doing on or off the football field. One thing football-wise his dad does with Logan is he consistently breaks down his film and records every game, so Freeburg has another angle of the game to watch.
Learning from 2019/2020 Goals
Last season, Freeburg learned in week 1 in the Pathers game against Woodbury that he would need to adjust his game when he went up against guys like Cole Smutny. Growing up, Freeburg would just escape to the outside and just outrun everyone but last season he took the “to and thru” method of running, by hitting holes before they closed to get north to south as quickly as possible on every run and try to use his already downhill running to run over defenders inside of going around them.
As for 2020 goals, Freeburg said he doesn’t care about any personal success he has, just as long as can contribute to getting Lakeville North a state championship.
