MN Elite
It was tough sledding for most QBs at the NYE 7v7 Open Run at the National Sports Center in Blaine. However, my favorite QB of the night was Irondale High School and MN Elite sophomore

. A familiar name to PRZMN, Cooper continues to improve and develop exposure point to exposure point, and his mechanics and arm strength really is coming along going into the all-important junior year. Cooper, with his compact, tight, and consistent release, reads the field and gets rid of the ball quickly, and the rock really zips out of his hand and gets to the catch point with some velocity. There were a lot of traits going for him, namely the timing, tight spiral, and rifle of an arm attached to his right shoulder, but the accuracy was the big + on NYE. Cooper was pinpoint accurate, especially in the MOF, as he could thread the needle and really put the ball on a rope and into tight coverage windows. The sophomore also showed off his ball placement on back-shoulder tosses and fade balls to sweeten the pot, and I thought he did a good job of moving the MN Elite offense when given the opportunity. Good showing for Cooper early into the offseason.

Statistically, if you’re a quarterback growing up and going to high school in Minnesota, the odds are not high in making it to the NFL level. Trey Lance of the Dallas Cowboys is a notable, current name–but before that, we’re going back to the early 2000’s with Todd Bouwman and Chris Weinke. In absolutely, no shape or form, am I saying that

is NFL-bound, but there’s an intriguing skill set here. Cooper is listed at 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds, but that’s not verified. However, what is verified–by me–is that he’s a prospect that has some ability. He’s a shorter kid that clearly works his tail off in the gym and that comes out on the field in his ability to make plays. Judging by film, his arm strength isn’t on par with the quarterback’s I typically write up, but his athleticism is. He’s a significantly better runner than passer right now, and reminds me a lot of former East Ridge High School standout and one-time Minnestoa Golden Gopher, Dominik London. The Irondale High School program is statically average (at best), but Cooper could be a shot of optimism for the Knights, who finished 1-8 this year.
