I literally check out the film of dozens, if not over 100, different middle prospects every single day. From coast to coast, farm towns to big cities, mountains to the beaches and fertile recruiting grounds to needles in a haystack. Here are five offensive prospects that stood out to me today from across the United States on November 1st, 2023. Please note the date, you’ll want to remember it in the future.
Tall, thin quarterback who had a nice season in 2023 as a member of the LA City Ducks in one of the tougher youth football conference in California, the Pacific Youth Football League (PYFL). Scheinberg is listed at 6-foot-2 and 150-pounds (unofficially) and helped the Ducks earn a home playoff game as the No.7 seed, but were eliminated in the first round. On film, Scheinberg excels in throwing the deep ball and making some off-platform throws. He can also use his legs better than the average 2028 QB. Has already visited and camped at Michigan, Texas, San Jose State, UCLA and others. He’s nowhere near a finished project, but there’s potential here–no question.
Highlights
Hudsonville is home to the Michigan quarterback that shows some really good things on tape. Listed at 5-foot-10 and 145-pounds, he’s a good-looking athlete that can hurt the defense with both his arms and legs–but more of a passer if the opportunity is there. There are a number of big takeaways watching Snip’s film. He has very good awareness and pocket presence for being so young. In addition, he moves with fluidity and understated speed. Does an advanced job of squaring his shoulders and making accurate throws on the move. Also really like his release. The overwhelming majority of the time it’s a crisp over-the-top release, but also can change arm angles to get the ball out through natural (or created) passing lanes.
2028 prospect Jordan Hall is doing a good job of matching his older brother, 2026 prospect Kamron Hall, stride for stride in terms of ability on the football field. Jordan is an exciting running back/wide receiver/cornerback/safety that is best described as simply being an ATH (athlete). Listed at 5-foot-9 and 150-pounds right now, he’s an explosive kid with very impressive speed on film. Gets to full speed in just a few steps and while he has the ball, he runs with a style that almost dares people to try and bring him down. Part of the Texas high school football powerhouse program known as Aledo, he was one of the main reasons the middle school Bearcats finished 6-2 on the season and will continue to reload.
You can’t get much further North in Illinois than the village of Johnsburg–no more than 15 miles to the Wisconsin stateline–but that’s where Hjorth hails from. He stands 5-foot-10 and 140-pounds right now and has had quite the pre-high school athletic career. On top of standing out as a wide receiver, Hjorth has also qualified for the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) state tournament in wrestling and Track And Field in the 4×400 and 4×200. On film, you can see his work on the track and in the wrestling room directly translate to his route running on the football field. Much of his film is deep routes; And while he doesn’t have an elite initial burst off the line, you can see he gets faster after he gets into his route. His toughness also comes through with his ability to break tackles and bounce off guys who don’t come correct.
Statistically, if you’re a quarterback growing up and going to high school in Minnesota, the odds are not high in making it to the NFL level. Trey Lance of the Dallas Cowboys is a notable, current name–but before that, we’re going back to the early 2000’s with Todd Bouwman and Chris Weinke. In absolutely, no shape or form, am I saying that Wehso Cooper Wehso Cooper 5’7″ | 155 lbs | QB Irondale | 2028 MN is NFL-bound, but there’s an intriguing skill set here. Cooper is listed at 5-foot-7 and 155 pounds, but that’s not verified. However, what is verified–by me–is that he’s a prospect that has some ability. He’s a shorter kid that clearly works his tail off in the gym and that comes out on the field in his ability to make plays. Judging by film, his arm strength isn’t on par with the quarterback’s I typically write up, but his athleticism is. He’s a significantly better runner than passer right now, and reminds me a lot of former East Ridge High School standout and one-time Minnestoa Golden Gopher, Dominik London. The Irondale High School program is statically average (at best), but Cooper could be a shot of optimism for the Knights, who finished 1-8 this year.
