Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
An instinctive defensive back with strong cover skills and an aggressive style of play against the run, Sanford showed last season that he’s one of the more underrated defensive backs across Gwinnett County for the 2026 class. He plays hard, runs well, and has no problem lowering his shoulder to make a big hit on the ball-carrier. The fast-rising cornerback made 28 tackles last season with one INT, eight pass-breakups, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and one blocked punt. He’s ranked as the No. 62 DB in the state according to the latest 2026 rankings update.

A new Gwinnett County defensive back to keep an eye on this spring, Sanford is a promising defensive back who also shines on special teams. The lean, athletic 5-foot-11 185-pounder is starting to see his recruitment pick up with an offer this week from Cincinnati and could see more come his way sooner than later. As a junior last season, Sanford made only 28 tackles for the Lions but picked off one pass and broke up eight more. He also forced one fumble, recovered another, and blocked one kick. Look for him to have an even bigger season as a senior next fall.
