I’ve mentioned Tyler a few times already this season. This is a breakout junior who earned an All-Conference honorable mention.
I really like how fluid an athlete Tyler is. Consistent, quick change of direction, fluid hips, and able to start/stop on a dime. Helps him out quite a bit in the run game, as Tyler tends to take aggressive angles, and when the angle is right, he’s stopping the ball carrier for minimal yardage. Sometimes, Tyler takes a bad angle or has trouble getting out of a block. Still, he’s one of the best run-stopping DBs in his region. Super curious to see how Tyler fares this postseason, starting tonight.

Tyler is another player who has outperformed what I thought was his ceiling for this season. Just watch the first 60 seconds of Tyler’s tape.
He’s been awesome in man coverage. The play at 0:26 showcases fluid hips and excellent change of direction. Not many DBs in Michigan can start crashing on the out, then change direction upfield so quickly. Several other examples of excellent change of direction, good ball skills, and sound tackling. One of the most lockdown man-to-man DBs this season, and I’d be shocked if Tyler didn’t earn GLIAC offers, if not G5 offers.

It’s no secret that Hudsonville lost most of its 2024 starters due to graduation. Last season, Tyler eventually earned his Varsity snaps, even getting in for a significant portion of the State Championship game.
This year, he’s stepping up in a big way in what seems to be a full-time starting role. At 0:24, Tyler does a great job reading the short out route and exploding toward the WR for a big hit. Really good play recognition there. Next play, Tyler does something very similar against Byron Center. Sees the out route, and tackles the receiver before any damage is done. Then, at 0:47, Tyler contains the edge and earns a TFL. Finally, at 1:25, we get to see a glimpse of man coverage.
This tape proves that Tyler is a willing tackler, plays fast, and can stop the run. Additionally, I like Tyler’s change of direction and all-around athletic ability. Not a whole lot to go off of, but I am very intrigued.

Tyler shows a ton of potential, especially defensively. The thing I love most about his film is his effort. Every highlight you’ll see below shows a sensational amount of effort, whether that is reacting fast to stop the run or flying to the ball to make a difficult interception. He should be a great player in the OK Conference for years to come.
