One of the biggest movers I have with our 2027 class coming out of Spearfish surely is QB/ATH Thomas Hughes Thomas Hughes 6'0" | 170 lbs | ATH Spearfish | 2027 State SD . He logged 26 total touchdowns as a junior (13 pass, 12 rush and 1 on defense) and showing as one of the most elsuive dual-threat quarterbacks in this 2027 SD that can not only get away from pressure, but utilze it for big chunk plays, as Thomas had one against Tea Area that he took for 93 yards to the house. Surely shows off as an athlete that can play just about anywhere in the secondary or in a handful of spots on the offensive side of the ball at the next-level.

Thomas has been just about everywhere for the Spartans thus far this season and still he shows off as one of the most proficent passers in the state as well. He boosts an over 68% completion percentage on the season while averaging nearly 11 yards per throw with six touchdowns and just one interception thus far. The athleticism that Thomas shows off with his legs in my eyes appears as one of the more mobile quarterbacks in 11AA as the Spartans face a tough test heading to #2 ranked Huron on Friday night.

Thomas comes up our rankings from the watchlist to our QB6 in the class as a 2027 quarterback out of Spearfish that you can tell quick has a sound chemistry with his receivers. He shows off excellent precision and consistently on tape gets his wide receivers ahead of the secondary. There is more persistency too with Thomas’s quick release as he seems like a quarterback that can grow on all three levels. Right now he shows off upside with his touch as I see some wiggle room for growth in that skillset making it more fluiid, but no doubt this young man has the arm strength overall to grow in this 2027 class.
