Simpson got some work in the rotation last year and made the most of his opportunities. He plays with a good motor and doesn’t give up on a play, even when the ball goes away from him. He’s comfortable enough in man coverage to hold his own, and I like how he fights to get off downfield blocks instead of staying tied up. Once he gets free, he’ll come make the tackle and finish the play. Those effort plays don’t always show up in the stat sheet, but they’re hard to miss when you watch the film.

Simpson put together a good year two and made plays throughout the season as his confidence continued to grow. He’s a good athlete with solid instincts in the backend and shows a decent break on the ball when opportunities come his way. He also plays the ball well in the air and competes at the catch point. He finished with 12 tackles and 3 PBUs while getting his feet wet at the varsity level. With that experience now under him, he should be ready for a bigger role next year.
