Friday’s game confirmed everything that I previously thought about Ronny. In short, everything that he’s put on tape showed up. Not more, not less.

Right off the bat, Ronny passes the eye test. He’s an extremely fit, well-built, elusive running back. During warm-ups, Ronny looked locked in and ready to go.

During the first quarter, Ronny played very well. I thought that the Dexter offense gave him a fair number of touches, and Ronny made the most of his touches. Like you’d expect from a B1G 10 committed running back, he turned what would normally be a 3-4 yard gain into an explosive play because of his skillset. Speaking of skillset, Ronny seems extremely athletic and explosive. He also has solid vision, and does a great job of making people miss at the second level. As his size may suggest, he isn’t the most powerful back, but still falls forward. I’m really not saying anything groundbreaking- Ronny is everything you’d expect from a Northwestern commit. Athletic, explosive, and generally a couple steps above most others on the football field.

Ronny is probably the D1 running back that I’ve watched the least of. I know he’s got blazing speed, I know he can break a tackle, but I don’t know a lot of things as well.

Mostly, I’m looking for how Ronny does the “little things.” How is he in pass protection? How much effort does he put into every down? How often is he used in the passing game, and how does he perform when targeted?

This game will do wonders for our evaluation of Ronny!

Ronny is one of the many Running Backs who’ve increased their stock over the past few months. Since the end of the 2023 season, Ronny has demonstrated his near-elite talent. When I watch Ronny’s film, his explosiveness and top speed stand out. On top of that, he has above-average contact balance, power, and vision. He isn’t the twitchiest athlete, but I expect him to develop athletically at Northwestern. Ronny is a 3-down back who does his best work between the tackles, and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do at Northwestern.

2024 has been treating Ronny Johnson Ronny Johnson 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Dexter | 2025 State MI incredibly well thus far. Although I haven’t watched Ronny in person, I strongly believe that his 2023 tape has propelled him to these offers. He’s also attended a lot of camps, which gives the host school confirmation.
Speaking of the tape, Ronny shows near-elite explosiveness in addition to great top speed. If I had to guess, he has a phenomenal 40 time. On top of that, Ronny has several instances of great contact balance, vision, and pure north-south running. This is a bellcow back who does his best work between the tackles, and this is NOT someone who wastes movement or time trying to spread the ball outside. Super explosive, efficient football player who is trending toward B1G 10 offers.
