Cummings committed to Cal in June but was offered by Texas on November 7 and took an official visit on Nov. 21. On November 26, Cummings flipped his commitment from Cal to the Longhorns.

Cummings is Carlsbad’s best defensive player and he was laying some big hits Tuesday. He also had some catches on offense that came in crucial moments to extend drives. After the game, Cummings announced his commitment to Texas.

Cummings checks all the boxes of a major D1 LB with an exceptional skillset that blends his size, length, and athleticism. A pure football player, he plays downhill and is constantly attacking. 6’4” 220 lbs. his frame is ideal for today’s hybrid LB position capable of playing in space, rushing the passer, and filling the run. Good natural movement skills and speed for his size, shows the range to chase from the backside and the lateral agility to track down ball carriers in the open field. Excels in pursuit, closing ground quickly with long strides and good top-end speed. Very efficient when shedding blocks with a good mix of speed and power moves. His length allows him to maintain separation and then disengage from contact. Aggressive tackler that accelerates his feet and drives through contact to finish ball carriers to the ground. Recruitment and exposure has skyrocketed this spring with eight of his nine offers coming in since April. Enters the rankings at #110 overall.

Cummings was one of my top performers at the Under Armour camp last Sunday and his recruitment has predictable picked up in a big way.

He had 29 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble last season in seven games. Boston College and San Diego State have also offered Cummings.

Cummings has been a no-brainer power four caliber outside linebacker for the last two seasons and he’s finally seeing his recruitment take off the spring, picking up offers from San Jose State and Utah last week. He is violent and dynamic on the edge and shows pass rush abilities with elite closing speed, natural bend around the edge and hand violence at the point of attack. He shows he can quickly get off blocks and set the edge with ease while also very rangy in coverage with man cover skills downfield and covers a ton of ground in space when tracking outside the tackles. Coming off very strong camp performances in recent weeks, he is a fast rising name and should be a 10+ offer guy by the time it’s all said and done.

Cummings was one of the most physically impressive players at the camp with a nearly 80 inch wingspan and ran a 4.65 40 at his size. A lot of linebackers would lose the speedy running backs in coverage as the route got deeper, but Cummings was typically able to keep pace with high-level recruits.

Cummings picked up his second D-I offer from San Diego St. in April. The 6’4″/220 LB from Carlsbad showed promising flashes of FBS talent as a junior with the impressive combination of length, range, and physicality he brings to the table. Still flying under the radar given the level of upside he offers but Cummings should solidify himself as one of the top LB prospects in SoCal over the coming months.

Cummings is another elite athlete from his outside linebacker spot for Carlsbad, and is one of the more under the radar kids across the entire state that is a no-brainer FBS talent at the second level. At 6’3+ he has a long and lean build with the frame to continue packing on weight and is an obvious weight room guy right now. He has quick play recognition, triggers quickly on the edge and plays with violent hands at the POA when coming into the box. He is a sure tackler in space and in the box and has elite closing speed while seemingly comfortable in space and can add pass rush duties with bend, initial explosion and a variety of moves in his toolbox. Currently, he holds one offer from Boston College but is severely under-recruited.
