announced his commitment to Cornell on Friday.
He had a strong showing at the Elite 11 Regional in March. Paul Gregorian wrote of MacNeal, “a very good athlete from the pocket and shows exceptional awareness, pocket presence and solid throwing mechanics downfield.”
MacNeal also had offers from New Mexico and UNLV. He is the first quarterback in Cornell’s 2026 recruiting class.

The Carlsbad signal caller is a very good athlete from the pocket and shows exceptional awareness, pocket presence and solid throwing mechanics downfield. He is accurate on the intermediate and deep pass, and does a nice job putting air under his throws to allow his receivers to run underneath. He is very mobile when evading pressure and keeping his eyes downfield, while showing he can throw on the run and from various angles when improvising outside the pocket. Heading into his Senior year, he will be one of the top returning passers across the San Diego Section.

MacNeal broke out as a junior throwing for over 2,100 yards and 24 TDs while completing 76% of his passes in his first season as the starter for Carlsbad. Accurate distributor from the pocket that can power the ball downfield for explosive plays. Extremely savvy and intelligent passer that can finesse his way around the pocket and make creative plays out of nothing. Puts good touch on the ball and does a good job of stepping into his throws. MacNeal has his stock trending up with the upside he brings to the table.

MacNeal was highly efficient completing 10/11 passes for 215 yards and 3 TDs in Carlsbad’s 41-0 win over Ramona. The 6’/165 junior QB showed great management of the offense along with advanced pocket mechanics and awareness. He operates with patience, can feel the rush and find space, and can manipulate defenses with his skill as a passer. MacNeal’s passed for over 1,000 yards and 15 TDs and has the Lancers on a 4-game winning streak heading into a marquee league-opener against Mission Hills after the bye.
