Owen did get to play in some Friday night, serving as the team’s punter. However, that is far from what he could potentially be in store for this fall. Waukesha South has the weapons and the QB to fit their pass heavy offense. Even with all the returning talent, though, I have to think they will find a role for Owen this fall.

The 6’4″ 225 lbs 2029 TE was consistently one of the best TEs at every camp I saw him at. Size, effortless mobility and change of direction, the speed to be able to win vertically, and the ability to create separation with either size or athleticism. The kid is going to be one of the toughest matchups in the state, so look for him to find a role on Friday nights. Big things ahead for the 2029 whenever he gets his chances.

The TE position should be a young, and loaded group. Our next athlete I can’t wait to see live is another 2029 TE in Owen Schmitt. Owen has the frame to work his way into being one of the next top tier TE recruits coming out of WI. He is listed at 6’4″ 225 lbs on his X account, and I’m excited to see him verify that Sunday. From there I want to see him in 1 on 1s. His tape shows a lot of his impact coming in the quick passing game, so on Sunday I hope to see him show that he can win further downfield and use athleticism or route running to get open. This will be a great chance for him to focus on the TE position and show what he can do before the season rolls around and we see him at TE/DE/K for Waukesha South. The ’29 is a special talent that should already be on the radar of the next level.

The freshman has the size for the TE position and separates himself with the athleticism he plays with at that size. On tape you see Owen beating defenders on their angles. He also has some very effective quick twitch lateral agility that shows up when he plays DE. You see the first step burst and lateral movement quickly get him around OTs as well as his utilization of his length. Owen can play all three phases effectively. TE, DE and K.
