After starting late in the season as a freshman, missing a major chunk of the season as a sophomore, and throwing 12 touchdowns to just 1 interception across 8 games as a junior, Nico SampsonNicoSampson

has full reign of the Bees offense at quarterback. In terms of raw arm talent, Sampson has plenty of that. We see on tape that he can deliver a ball to the far numbers from just inside the opposite hash. What makes this throw so impressive is that he is capable of putting touch on those type of throws to mitigate against superior angles by defensive backs. Additionally, after watching film I thought that Sampson was more accurate, with plenty of arm strength, in terms of on-target ball placement when he was on the move rather than in the pocket – for when he is in the pocket, it seems as though he is focused on making a decision quickly and getting the ball out. As such, more drive off of his front foot would add to his velocity.

. While Bayonne started off slow in 2024 with a 0-2 record, Bayonne turned things around and won 6 straight games before losing in the first round of the playoffs. Nico and Chance provide a dynamic 1-2 punch for Bayonne’s offense, and that showed as the season progressed this past fall. While Nico didn’t light it up through the air (876 yards), he was extremely efficient in the pocket as he threw 12 touchdowns to only 1 interception. Nico showed that he has the touch needed to place the ball where only his receiver can go up and get it. And Nico doesn’t fold under pressure; he stays composed in the pocket and has the quick release to get the ball out right before the pressure can get to him. Nico’s hair trigger release allows him to see an open man last minute and zip it across the field on a line. Nico is truly a star in the making.

is in a position to elevate Bayonne to the next level. With the ability to shift around in the pocket, Nico is able to give himself more time to make a play and let his guys get open downfield. With a strong arm on the run, defenses need to be careful anytime he gets outside of the pocket. He puts a ton of zip on the ball and can get it where it needs to be extremely quickly.

is competing for the very same job. Like Linsanity, Sampson missed time this year – albeit I believe a bit more time. Samspon was 36 of 59 for 316 yards with a 4:4 TD:Int ratio, while rushing 12 times for 47 yards. With a clean pocket Sampson can throw the ball about 60 yards on a dime. Profiling as an athletic quarterback, he has the ability to reset his feet quickly and deliver a solid ball when executing throws where he is going to his left. In my opinion, Sampson is at his best when things break down and he is forced to move and make a play. Aside from the benefits of a strong offseason, Sampson would be well served to improve his throwing mechanics.
