Gourdine checks the boxes teams look for in a complete defensive back. His fluid hips and smooth transitions allow him to turn and run with vertical threats, while his patience at the line and strong zone awareness consistently put him in position to make plays on the football. He finishes with physicality in run support and rarely allows easy completions.
I would keep a close eye on Gourdine over the next two years, as I believe he has a shot to develop into a D1 prospect. I saw Gourdine on the 7v7 circuit this year, and I was impressed with the intensity and edge he played with. In a true football setting, it looks like he plays the same. He is a smaller, but physical player who I think could hold his own at corner, even if a move inside where he can more consistently play his physical brand of football if on display. He is still adding nuance, but everything he does is fast and physical, and it’s refreshing to watch.
“I’m a big fan of Gourdine’s physicality in coverage. He makes opposing WRs work for every yard- frequently re-routing them at the line of scrimmage and staying with them the entire length of the field.
Gourdine also has an impressive set of hands he uses to pick off break-up passes thrown his way. It’s rare for opposing QBs to target him, but when they do, he has the timing, instincts, and ball skills to swoop in and create some impressive picks. I really look forward to his next season. I think he could take a big jump.”
I’m looking forward to what Gourdine has in store over the next few years. He’s a talented player who can create turnovers and PBUs against some of the best in the state. Be sure to take a look at his film below:
