Maloney is a dual threat QB who’s an explosive athlete.  He’s a really fun watch on film.  Mikey is a player who will drive opposing defensive coordinators mad with his ability to stress defenses and with his ability to run and improvise when plays break down.  He definitely has a little Johnny Football to his game.  He’s one of the better throwers on the run and off platform that I’ve seen in this class.  As a thrower, he has a live arm and can really let it rip when it wants to.  He tends to stick to the intermediate passing game, but he has the ability to stand in the pocket and make the deep throw.  Mikey executes the RPO as well as you’ll see a high school quarterback do it.  I can’t wait to see what film Maloney is able to put out this fall.  I think he’ll get D2 and D1 FCS interest, but don’t be surprised if the FBS G5 schools come calling.

While he has been out there getting sharper on his passes, his work to improve his numbers across the board have led him to take a jump this offseason. His speed has improved while showing off at the Elite11 camp to run a 4.57 40-yard dash. He has been locked in at the gym for numbers that just don’t come from everyday quarterbacks. Showing off a 60-inch vertical box jump off on twitter last month, Maloney is as good of an athlete you will find under center. He has been out at Akron spring practice as well as Butler and Lehigh so far and recently earned his first offer from Mercyhurst. He is on the radar of a number of schools including the University of Toledo as well as Akron who came out to see Maloney throw and he did not disappoint. Maloney is one of the most fun quarterbacks to watch around which makes his team destined for a long run to give him even more film to impress coaches. With another offseason of prep and the confidence in his game he already has, Maloney has a high ceiling headed into the fall.

A dual-threat quarterback, Maloney goes through his progressions efficiently and can make big plays with his arm. Showing great mobility in the pocket, Maloney extends plays behind the line of scrimmage while keeping his eyes down the field looking for an open receiver. He is quick to make the best decision in the RPO to get the most yardage possible. When Maloney does decide to tuck the ball and run, he uses all of his 4.5 speed to gain ground and move the sticks. Maloney has superior arm rotation to launch the ball deep and find his receiver in stride. His grind in the weight room sets the tone of leadership on and off the field where he puts up impressive numbers in squat and deadlift. Maloney has been busy of late visiting Toledo and a number of Div. II schools, but no doubt he will gain even more looks in his senior year.
