Woods showed why he is considered one of the best backs in the state. He used his speed to the corner on two early ten-yard runs. Woods is a two-way player. As a defensive back, he showed good coverage on a deep ball. He got his hands on the ball and deflected the pass. Woods got around the corner again on third and long for a first down. Then, he showed good vision and good feet when he started right – didn’t see anything he liked and cut to the left. He still had nowhere to go, so he cut back to the right for eight yards.

Stock Riser
It’s hard for a North Dakota State RB commit to raise his stock even more, but Maxwell Woods of Chanhassen High School is doing just that. It’s been a while since Minnesota has had a RB with as much twitch, explosiveness, and prowess in space as Woods, and his senior midseason film is looking fantastic. It’s still early, but we’ve been hearing that some major P5 programs have been kicking the tires on Woods *insert eyes emoji* so stay tuned here for some possible developments in this recruitment. I want to make sure to note that he’s still solid with NDSU, his recruitment is not open or active, but his play is keeping big-time programs interested. This is how recruiting works, so don’t hold it against Max that teams are hitting him up. Not much you can do there as a prospect. This dude is absolutely electric, and it’s awesome to see it solidified on the recruitment trail. NDSU got a STUD!

With just over 1400 yards on the ground and 18 rushing touchdowns, Woods is sure to be a focal point of the Storm’s offensive attack. It is always the worst-case scenario to have a jailbreak situation where the offensive line is overwhelmed all at once, but it is bound to happen even to the best offensive lines. Woods is the guy I would pick to try to make something out of that situation. The Storm runner has the best feet I have seen on a running back in the last couple of seasons. He makes multiple guys miss within a two or three-yard patch of field. He is not just a scat back; he has good size and will break tackles if he is not squared up. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield and out of the slot running actual routes. Woods’ escape ability makes him a dangerous return man, and his overall athletic ability allows him to play some corner on defense.

By far the most agile prospect I watched overall at the NDSU prospect is now a new NDSU football commit in Chanhassen running back

. Not only was Maxwell the most agile he also was one of the most instinctive running backs I got to watch as he just had a persistent knack with his vision and balance in Indy drills and 1v1s that played with also plenty of fluidity with his footwork. The Bison coaches and fan base should certainly celebrate getting this young man as his tape just as well is a blast to watch.

has been a popular name to know since he was a young freshman and is seeing the fruits of his labor pay off this spring once the month of March rolled around. After MSU-Mankato offered a DII scholarship, the likes of Air Force, Army, North Dakota State, Navy, and the defending FCS national champs South Dakota State have all offered, as well as basketball offers from MSU-Moorhead and Concordia-St. Paul. There’s a ton more college suitors involved and waiting in the wings, and the stud RB is far from done on the recruiting trail. Woods is one arguably the twitchiest and most elusive ball carrier in the entire state of Minnesota, with a large variety of moves to make would-be tacklers miss, and his vision and balance allow him to produce some incredibly exciting runs that leave opponents grasping at air and clutching their ankles as they try to figure out how they missed the Chanhassen RB. It was only a matter of time before Woods saw his recruitment soar, and PRzMN is enjoying every second of it. Chanhassen, led by rising senior Woods, is going to be a force in Class 5A and are extremely motivated to avenge their 23-21 loss to Mankato West in the 2022 Section 2AAAAA championship last November.

Our current RB1’s ranking was solidified recently when FBS Air Force became the first D1 offer to a Minnesota 2024 RB when they offered Chanhassen’s Maxwell Woods a day ago. The Falcons, who run a triple-option/flexbone style of offense, have to be very sound in their evaluations of prep RBs, so this is an exciting first offer for Woods, a football + basketball standout for the Storm. MSU-Mankato also reached out a few days beforehand, and Woods has also visited UST and NIU this offseason. A variety of P5, FBS, and FCS programs also stopped by Chan to have an in-person word with Woods, so I hope things really start to explode on the trail for the rising senior. Arguably the most elusive ball carrier in the state, Woods posted 192 carries for 1,414 yards and 18 TDs with 47 carries of over 10 yards. Patient, twitchy, balanced, Woods has excellent COD skills and the speed/vision combo to excitedly cut back across the field for electric runs that deflate a defensive effort. Woods does a great job of taking what the defense gives him and making them pay for it, plus, you don’t know what kind of juke move or tackle breaking attempt he’s going to pull out when a defender bears down on him. He broke some ankles and had defenders looking silly last fall. Keep an eye on this recruitment going forward!
