A steady blocker who maintains a wide base and stays low against his opponents, Tew is consistently able to get underneat the defender to match their pad-level and attack at the chest, showcasing an impressive amount of raw power to drive defenders backward against both the pass and the run. Tew will enter his senior season as likely the leader of their offensive-line, and despite his size, holds an array of offers to play at the NAIA level after high school, signaling a bright future for the Center.

A Sioux City native that could stay close and play for the hometown team, Max Tew Max Tew 6'0" | 225 lbs | OL/DL Bishop Heelan | 2027 State IA paved the way for a lethal Heelan offense en route to an appearance in the 3A championship game this fall.

Playing center with a wide base that allowed him to stay in front of pass-rushers, Tew’s play allowed for the passing game to develop for the Crusaders. In the ground game, Tew used his pad level and upper body strength to get up and under the pads of defensive tackles, plowing the way for an elite rushing attack.

I got to watch Tew operate in person during Heelan’s run to the Class 4A state title game. The junior performed at a high level during the two games in The Dome. Not the largest dude in the trenches, Tew stands out for his technique and strength when watching his 11th-grade highlight video, which gives us clips from the first three weeks of the season. It’s a collection of skills that work well at center, where he successfully handles the important responsibilities of the position. Tew gets the ball where it’s supposed to go and fires into the chest of the guy across from him. Low pad level helps him win the leverage battle often. He understands angles and how to best utilize hand placement.
