Another top QB in the state of DE for the 28 class, Max looks to make his mark this weekend. Assuming he will split reps with Jameson but I see no downgrade in what the Team Debo will be capable with Max at the helm. A lefty QB and a good overall athlete. Max is a backfield creator, able to move the pocket and throws well on the run. With a quick release, Max can get the ball out quick and with good spin. He throws a nice catchable ball and see the field well – can make something happen when it’s not there. Looking forward to seeing Max put his deep ball on display this weekend to evaluate his overall arm strength.

A 2028 quarterback with a high school-ready body, who passes the eye test at 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds. Biggest takeaway on the Southpaw are his excellent fundamentals for this level.
Area for improvement: Carrying out play fakes/post-handoff movement.

Out of the three quarterbacks I saw at practice for the 2024 8th Grade All-Delaware Bowl, I’d say Phipps was the most balanced and varsity-ready of the three quarterbacks. That’s not a knock on the athletic Cam Gardner (listed above) or the beautiful ball of Jameson Bryant (on the Blue Team), but Phipps just is just the most physically ready. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, the size and arm strength check the boxes. Also had very good footwork in his drops, though he wasn’t facing a live rush at practice.
