as he enters his junior year. Flashing a good first step with a high motor, Nelson flies to the ball, wraps up as a tackler and can collapse opposing OLs with force, rushing the passer effectively. Plays with good bend, leverage and pad level, consistent use-of-hands. Has the frame for it at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds. He will be a name to watch during college camps.

Nelson is a developing edge rusher who has good speed and bending ability around the edge. He’s got decent speed coming off the edge and can move with quickness. His wrestling background helps him all over the football field. He’s able to bend underneath and dip around the edge. He plays with a good motor and plays through the whistle. He rotated in Varsity and had gotten better as the year went on. He’ll likely be the full-time starter next fall and take another big step. He ended the year with 23 tackles, 4 TFLs, and 2 sacks.

Nelson is a good interior defensive lineman who had a strong freshman year on varsity. He’s got a good get-off and can shed blocks to free himself up. He moves well side to side and can track down a ball carrier in space. His pad level still needs work, but once the technique catches up, he’ll be able to win more consistently. He’s got a solid frame that’s still filling out, and that added size and strength will only help him take the next step.

Nelson is a multi-sport athlete with a strong wrestling background, and it shows in how he moves. He’s got good bend and body control off the edge, which helps him stay balanced through contact and win with leverage. He knows how to create pressure and already has a few go-to moves in his bag. He’s still developing as a run defender, but the effort and physicality are there. With his athletic traits and technical foundation, he’s got a chance to flourish on the outside.
