We’ve evaluated Max in the past, and we think very highly of his game at Prep Redzone. Everything I have seen makes me think he is a G5 level player at least. His junior season tape is impressive. His step off the ball is borderline elite, and his explosion is superb. His motor is crazy, and his ability to pursue sideline to sideline is as well. He has a swim move and a rip that are both nearly impossible to stop, and he has no issue using his power to bull rush weaker tackles. From time to time, they even slid him inside a little and let him clog the middle, which he does nicely thanks to his strong lower half that allows him to anchor down in a gap. Keep an eye out for this game wrecker this fall.
A solid power rusher. Max’s second highlight below shows him getting a near-free ride into the backfield, thus earning a TFL. Next highlight, Max reads the pulling linemen beautifully, and earns yet another TFL. At 0:33, Max again easily overpowers the offensive tackle and gets a tackle. Same with 0:45, but this time it’s a QB hit.
Max is going to continue overpowering most offensive tackles he faces. I know from watching him up close at camps that Max is built well, and has amazing high school DE upside.
Underrated prospect from Big Rapids, and my #3 defensive lineman currently in the class!
Max does a great job on both sides of the ball. I always think back to the MHSAA Evaluation Camp in Jenison- Max outperformed a lot of SENIORS on the defensive line. He was built extremely well last year, and I bet he’s even stronger this year.
This past season, Max repped at TE as well as DL. At TE, he was a solid target and did his best to break tackles and fight for extra yards. Defensively, Max does a solid job at using his hands to fight off blocks while keeping an eye on the backfield. He’s not super polished in that regard, but I’m confident he’ll continue to develop his game.
Max is on par with my expectations of him this season.
Last summer, I got to watch Max at the MHSAA Evaluation camp in Jenison. There, he did a phenomenal job at defensive end, winning several reps against senior offensive linemen.
On tape, Max shows that same athletic upside in addition to elite physicality, something you can’t show in the offseason. Defensively, he has a few highlights where he perfectly splits a gap, gets through, and makes a play. Offensively, Max has several highlights of him blocking and driving a man back 5+ yards.
Elite physicality and way ahead of the curve athletically. I really hope that Max grows a few more inches because he’d have a much easier time getting recruited at 6’3″+. Either way, Max will be a phenomenal high school football player for the next few years!
