We switch from the OL to the DL for our next new addition. Freedom DL Mason Van Groll Mason Van Groll 6'3" | 300 lbs | DL/OL Freedom | 2028 State WI debuts inside our Top 80 overall and Top 15 at his position. The 6’3″ 300 lbs DL proved to be a force on the interior in 2025. He embodies the term stout. Clip after clip he is holding the line, standing up OL, and violently shedding their blocks. Mason is able to spring out of his stance and instantly transition his speed to power that can bull rush his man into the backfield. The ’28 is going to be a monster in the trenches this fall. Keep a close eye on him.

Another athlete from the DL position who instantly passes the eye test is Freedom DL Mason Van Groll Mason Van Groll 6'3" | 300 lbs | DL/OL Freedom | 2028 State WI . Mason checked in at 6’2″ 305 lbs, overshadowing a lot of the other DL talent in attendance. These camps aren’t quite built for guys like Mason who thrive off their ability to dominate one or two gaps by controlling the OL, finding the ball, and then shedding to make the stop in the hole. However, Mason was able to let that strong upper body flash just like it does on his sophomore highlights. Having a kid with this size and his production on varsity as a sophomore sets him up to be on a lot of radars by the end of his junior season. Keep a close eye on Mason and this Freedom team.

What a force Mason has proven to be along the interior of the DL. To do it as just a sophomore has me very excited for his future and should have college coaches paying close attention. The 6’3″ 300 lbs 2028 DT/NG wrecks drives on a weekly basis. The sheer size and strength of Mason show up rep after rep. He eats up blocks and has proven over and over to have the power to not only hold his ground, but also collapse the pocket or make TFLs against the run game. The big fella is already showing consistently strong hands and good hand use overall. The big man also shows that he can drop his pad level and get underneath OL to drive them off the ball with leverage. Mason is also showing that he can move pretty well too. The ceiling is very high for the Freedom athlete.
