Hartwell added another dimension to an already powerful Katy offense, putting his versatility on full display in the Tigers’ 28-17 victory over Atascocita.
The do-it-all quarterback showed he can beat defenses with both his arm and his legs. He looked comfortable running the offense, and when a play broke down, he used his athleticism to create something positive. His quick release keeps defenses honest, while the threat of him taking off creates even more opportunities for Katy’s running game.
Hartwell led the Tigers with more than 150 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. With his confidence, athleticism and playmaking ability, he will be one of the most exciting players to watch this season.

Mason brings a dual threat element that can force defenses to defend every inch of the field. He has the ability to extend plays when the pocket breaks down, but his legs also give the offense another option when the passing lanes disappear. What stands out is the pressure he can put on a defense when plays break down linebackers have to respect his ability to pull the ball and take off, while defensive backs still have to stay disciplined in coverage. If Mason continues to develop as a passer while taking advantage of his mobility, he could become a difficult quarterback to game-plan against this season.
