We have talked about Mac a few times over the last couple months and we are back to continue to pound the table for this talented athlete. It can’t be understated how impressive it was to watch him switch to OL this season and become an All Conference level impact player. His quickness, power, and ability to understand leverage has made Mac such an effective run blocker. A trait that will shine at the TE position as well. He has the frame to dominate at the position at the next level too. Get this kid the ball in space and watch him work. I hope I can cross paths with him this summer to get another close look at him.

Mac Johnson Mac Johnson 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE/EDGE Waunakee | 2027 State WI of Waunakee is one of the most versatile TEs in the Class of 2027. He didn’t get to contribute a ton as a receiver in 2025 because Mac was busy earning All Conference honors as an OL. The 6’5″ 230 lbs junior bolstered his run blocking dominance with all that experience. Look for Mac to return in 2026 and prove that he is the best blocking TE in this Class. He is so quick to his man, plays with great hand placement, and easily stays square on his man while flashing the power that he is building into that prototypical frame. At this point it looks like Mac is going to be a massive steal.

This is one of my favorite TEs in the state. Great size, meets the athletic thresholds you want to see in a TE, and a force in the run game. So much so that Mac actually filled in on the OL this season so well that he earned All Conference honors for his dominance. When he did get to play TE he saw 5 targets, turning 2 of them into TDs. Being selfless like that on top of being as talented as he is speaks volumes of the type of person Mac is. No doubt he can offer that three down ability to an offense at the next level.

Right up there with producing OL, WI has been pumping out TE recruits at a very high rate. One of those top end athletes in 2027 is Waunakee’s Mac Johnson Mac Johnson 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE/EDGE Waunakee | 2027 State WI . The junior not only dominated at TE this season, but also DE and OL. The big man is an outstanding run blocker with his power and quick twitch athleticism allowing him to gain the positioning advantage. That run blocking allowed him to fill in on the OL throughout the season. The big man is also a viable receiving threat. Showing he can get downfield quickly and attack the ball in the air with soft hands. He is a load to bring down after the catch too. Definitely get this kid on your radars.

We didn’t get to see Mac in the passing game much. He did catch a TD pass to start the 4th quarter, but it was his run blocking that took center stage in this game. Teams recruiting 2027s and in need of a traditional TE need to have Mac way up their boards. A 6’5″ 230 lbs frame that impacted the run game as if he were an extra OL. Mac does a great job with positioning, leverage, and staying square on his man throughout the play thanks to his quick feet keeping up with his upper body and taking him to the defender instead of reaching. The big man had no trouble creating that positive surge in the trenches or even washing his man down the line away from the ball carrier all night long. The junior TE recruit is a must know prospect for his position. Already showing so much talent and there is so much more ceiling to work towards.

It is a fantastic TE group in the Class of 2027. Debuting at TE3 and 20 overall is Waunakee’s Mac Johnson Mac Johnson 6'5" | 230 lbs | TE/EDGE Waunakee | 2027 State WI . The 6’5″ 230 lbs athlete has that prototypical frame that you would draw up in a lab. Mac fits the role of the traditional TE. You can align him inline and let him impact the game as a receiver or blocker. He has the athleticism to roam the front seven landing key blocks with good angles, or he can get a quick release and leave LBs in his wake as he carves up the intermediate levels of the field with his route running. What I love is that Mac runs after the catch with the same anger and violence as he plays with while run blocking. He is a kid that can change a game with the ball in his hands or not. That is great piece to have at the TE position.
