Great to see that several of the top combine performances by WI athletes have come from our 2027 LB Class. We are known for producing OL, but LB is not far behind in our state’s history of successful recruit production. Another one of those athletes to keep a close eye on is Waunakee’s Kyan Newman Kyan Newman 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB/RB Waunakee | 2027 State WI who put up these numbers at River Falls.

Those numbers support the type of athlete Kyan played like in 2025 when he piled up 100+ tackles, 15 TFLs, and 5 sacks. This is a kid who plays with his hair on fire. You watch through and see those strong numbers shine through as he blitzes, or pursues sideline to sideline, or drops and roams the middle of the field in coverage. His range to chase down the ball shines on several reps. The 2027 LB holds offers from Eau Claire, Carroll, Stevens Point, Dordt, and Oshkosh.

Kyan is what you are looking for at the inside LB position. Every D2/D3 program needs to tap into the highlights below. Kyan is a three down LB. Against the run game he has the physicality to power through blocks and stuff the inside run. The range is there to go sideline to sideline in pursuit of an RB or to get after the QB. I love the IQ plays he makes where he is reading the QB and will eventually trigger downhill to go put pressure on the QB instead of waiting. Kyan has the size, strength, mobility, and IQ to work his way into a three down role at the next level.
