Expert Analysis
Mark Johnson | Prep Redzone Scout
Luke is a fun athlete to watch. He has built a powerful frame that could have him project as a S/LB hybrid at the next level. The senior safety already makes big time plays as a run supporter, showing he can close the gap from depth quickly and devastate ball carriers with his physical tackling. Having Luke’s athleticism in that hybrid role gives the defense a guy who can also be utilized in coverage. Especially in the short passing game where he can get physical with a TE at the line. This Swiss Army knife of a defender is well worth a deep dive.

Luke checks so many boxes when it comes to the safety position. You want a kid that will set the tone. Someone who you can rely on running downhill with bad intentions ready to fill against the run or deliver a hit on a receiver going over the middle. You also need a versatile athlete. He can’t just play in the box. Luke does really well in coverage. He can read and react to the QB or do a great job of feeling and finding receivers entering his zone. Plus he has the ball skills to create turnovers. The senior is a three down safety ready to play at the next level.

One of the top DBs in the state has somehow become an under the radar recruit. He started hot early in 2025 with an offer from North Dakota, but that is where things still sit. The 6′ 195 lbs safety is well deserving of more D1 looks and should prove that this summer. Luke is at his best playing over the top, reading the QB and showing off his range, ball skills, and timing to either make plays on the ball or destroy receivers right when the ball arrives. Tetzlaff also dominates against the run. He is so good flying downhill, closing quickly and navigating traffic on his way to the ball. The ’26 excels any time he can use his physicality to impact the game. This summer he is going to get plenty of chances to verify his coverage abilities as well as his athleticism. So keep an eye out for him.

We were already big fans of Luke’s coming into this game, and the junior safety only made us bigger fans with his play in person. The 6’1″ 195 lbs athlete perfectly embodies what a high quality safety prospect is. He has the range to allow you to line him up 15 yards deep and trust he can get to either sideline or the line of scrimmage to fill against the run. When the heat seeking missile reads run it was impressive watching him close on the ball, fly through the front seven without getting blocked and laying the wood on the ball carrier. Luke also made plays in coverage. Multiple times he flashed that range and would come flying in to bat the ball away out of nowhere. The junior safety also made his presence felt more and more as the game went on and in key moments. It was a great showing for one of the top safeties in WI.
