Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Lawson is an explosive edge rusher and deserving of the #1 edge spot amongst the 2028 class. Measures in at 6’3 215-pounds. He had 78 total tackles (19 solo, 59 assisted), 15 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR. He has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, change of direction, lateral quickness, balance, and good speed. Very good initial quickness and hand speed paired with a low pad level. Lawson has very good strength and dominates the tackle in front of him. Very good hand placement and hand strength. Very good block shedding with good get off speed. Very good bend around the edge. He has powerful bull rush, a smooth swim move and switches between the two techniques to attack the QB. He’s a stud in and I’m excited to see how he continues to develop!

Lawson measures in at 6’3 213-pounds and is another promising edge rusher. This past season, he had 78 total tackles (19 solo, 59 assisted), 15 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR. He has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, change of direction, lateral quickness, and good speed. Very good initial quickness and hand speed to engage the defender first. Very good bend around the edge. Good get off speed with very good block shedding. Very good strength, hand strength, and good hand placement. Has a smooth swim move, and a powerful bull rush to knock OL off their feet. Lawson is a strong tackler and consistently makes an impact in the backfield. As a sophomore, he had 8.5 sacks, and I firmly believe he will reach that 10 + sack marker in a season.

Lawson has good size for a defensive lineman, and made his mark during the competition. He had the fastest 40 amongst the defensive lineman. He killed it during the individual coaching and 1 on 1 portion. The drills showed his controlled foot work and agility. Very good lateral agility and acceleration. Very good bend. Powerful lower body. This all translated to the 1 on 1 portion. Showing his quick burst of his stance, and hand speed. Very good hand strength, and hand placement. Very good bull rush. Good swim move as well! His performance caught my eye, as he propels himself into the offseason !

is another player in this class of ’28 at Northfield HS with high potential. Lucas is extremely strong. As a FR he placed 3rd in the state Discus with 153-01. At 6’3 220 he does a great job using his length to control OTs. He also plays with great pad level, shooting out low and playing low behind his pads. Right now, Lawson does a great job getting around the edge of tackles with a combination of bend and speed. I would like to see him continue to develop his identification and transition from run to pass as well developing his hand combat and pass rush too bag. He’s still a raw and as he gains a better feel for the game his ability should grow exponentially. With his freakish strength and raw athleticism, I project Lawson will be a touted recruit as his puts it all together.

Lawson has been a beast for Northfield. Through the first 5 weeks, the 6’3 220-pound linebacker had 43 total tackles, 17 solo, 6 sacks, 6 TFL, and 2 FF. He has very good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, lateral agility, change of direction, and good speed. As an edge rusher, he has very good strength. Very good hand speed and initial quickness to engage first with the OL. Good get off speed and very good block shedding. Mixes between bull rush and spin move. If he’s doubled, he splits them with ease and gets to the QB. Very good bend around the edge. Very good tackler. He’s aggressive and plays through the whistle. Lawson will be a name to know moving forward. Keep an eye out for him.

Lawson had himself a productive freshman year rushing off the edge, leading all freshman with 4 sacks. The 6’2 215-pound defensive end had 21 total tackles (7 solo, 14 assisted), 7.5 TFL, and 4 sacks. Lawson has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, lateral agility, and good speed. Very good strength. He uses a very quick burst at the line of scrimmage, allowing him the upper hand against the tackle. Lawson has a good quickness out of his stance, engaging with the defender first. Good get off, and good block shedding. Powerful legs to push OL back into the pocket. Switches between a spin move and a bull rush. Very good bend around the edge. Lawson is a very good tackler. Tackles towards center of gravity and pulls down. Very good competitive toughness. Takes on double blocks and succeeds. He’ll even run to the other sideline to make sure the player gets tackled. Lawson is an exciting player, who I’m looking forward to see more of.
