continues to be one of the most popular defensive back recruits in Minnesota. The Pioneers junior visited North Dakota and Air Force during the past football season and has seen Wyoming, Northwestern, Northern Iowa, and North Dakota State come by Hill-Murray to speak to the ballhawk. He also visited West Lafayette for the Purdue Boilermakers junior day in January, and Syracuse, UNI, and Northwestern have all sent out summer camp invites. The popularity comes for good reason, as Grigson displays silky smooth footwork and breaking ability, flexible hips, good ball skills and high-point ability, and quick processing ability that sees, reacts, triggers, and closes on the ball with pace. He can play 1v1 man coverage on the perimeter or out of the slot, including out of the press, and he’s sticky and does a good job of contesting passes at the catch point. Grigson comfortable and effective playing the deep ball in the air, as well as staying in the hip pocket of the WR and practicing good eye discipline. Additionally, Grigson has no issues supporting the run, and is a good edge defender who can shed blocks at the perimeter while using proper leverage and not giving up the sideline to a ball carrier. The 185 lber. is a technically-sound tackler who is strong enough to handle ball carriers 1v1 and is comfortable tackling in space. Should be a busy offseason for the Hill–Murray Pioneer.

and the son of the Minnesota Vikings VP of Player Personnel Ryan Grigson, who played at Purdue, 2026 6′, 175 lb. DB Levi Grigson really caught my eye and impressed me in his sophomore tape with the Pioneers. As a former DB myself, Grigson was showing really good things technique-wise. He displays a smooth backpedal, loose hips, can bend his hips, weaves well, can adjust to and mirror WRs paths subtlety and easily, and gets out of his breaks effortlessly and with significant pace. Grigson doesn’t waste steps or movements and is a fluid and graceful defensive back while in coverage, and I can appreciate his patience and how well he can flip his hips. He’s sticky in off-man coverage, uses good timing and finds the catch point well when breaking up passes, and has the speed to stay on top of receivers going deep as well.
The multi-sport athlete, who also plays lacrosse and carries a 4.1 GPA, is also physical in run support. He attacks blockers, is a good form tackler, shows the strength to negate extra yardage after he makes contact, and will come downhill and stick his head in the action with no hesitation. Lots to like in both run and pass defense, I’m excited to see how this offseason has treated him as we enter the all-important junior year on the recruiting trail.
