About Lawtrell
Expert Analysis
Ed OBrien | Prep Redzone Scout
Bowlding is a physical, downhill linebacker who plays fast and finishes with force. From the middle, he shows excellent blitz timing, shooting the A-gap and driving ball carriers backwards for losses. Bowlding takes on blocks without hesitation, sheds cleanly, and stays disciplined in his reads. In pursuit, he closes ground quickly and stops the ball carrier in his tracks with his physical tackling style. Bowlding also shows value as a blitzer off the edge, bending under tackles and affecting the quarterback. What he needs to work on is continued development in pass coverage.

Lawtrell had a strong showing at the National Preps Spring Showcase which helped him make such a strong debut in these recent rankings update. Coming in at the #4 overall LB, he is a verified 6’2″ 185lbs. with a frame to get to 210-225lbs easily in time and the length to go along with it. He also ran a verified 4.8 forty and a 9’4″ SBJ. Those numbers help to confirm he has the athleticism to play that OLB role at the next level. He’s got nice lateral movement and COD ability, being high hipped and can open up and run with fluidity. As an off ball OLB, Lawtell shows very well in coverage. Able to stay with RBs and TE covering the flats and across the middle. He shows good instincts in breaking on the ball and either getting PBUs or stopping the offensive player in his tracks.
Currently holding a Del State offer he picked up in early spring. His length and athletic ability for the position will lead to plenty of FBS/FCS schools having interest in Lawtrell come next spring.
