Landon is one of the grittiest players I got to see all season long. His ability to extend plays, get out and make plays with his feet and arm are traits you rarely see. He was one of the best rushing QBs in the entire state and put his team on his back multiple times throughout the season. Even in the state finals, Landon was able to will his team back into the game time after time when things weren’t looking up. On top of his running talent, his arm got better and better throughout the years which is a testament to his training and commitment to his craft. He was one of the top performers not just of the QBs I got to see, but just players all around. I’ll be looking forward to what is next for Landon!

What a career for Landon. Seriously, there are few players I respect more than him. I’ve been following his career for about 3 years; I’ve been critical, I’ve given praise, and everything in between.
The harder the job got, the harder Landon worked. Two years ago, I thought he’d be a good NAIA prospect. A year ago, a decent D3 prospect. Now, I think he deserves a shot in the GLIAC. Landon still has a lot to work on, and I think this game did a great job of showcasing his strengths while exposing flaws. But if I know one thing, it’s that Landon will continue to improve. In most of my past evaluations, I failed to properly evaluate Landon’s passion and drive. The effort and passion Landon showed the past three years will take him very, very far in life.
Now, I’ll do my job in evaluating his state championship performance.
Landon played decent against the best defense he’s played in his career. He was tasked with a lot of quick game, and he was right on point with pretty much all of his passes. His throw velocity was perfect against a super-fast OLSM defense. However, his timing was a tad late on some of those throws.
There were also a few instances where Landon showed off his elusiveness in the pocket. He ran away from a few sacks, but again, OLSM did a great job bottling him up. Landon’s playmaking was limited because of the quicker defense.
I’m looking forward to seeing where Landon plays his college ball. In the GLIAC, I think Davenport or a rising school like Michigan Tech would be perfect for him.

6 Touchdowns. Are you kidding me? Landon was a do it all player all day long for his team from the QB position.
- Great vision both throwing and passing, was able to hit guys open in the pass game and break through holes in the run game
- Great mix of strength and speed made him nearly unstoppable, and had multiple explosive plays where he just beat the defense with his legs
- Vocal leader who kept his team in it and didn’t let off the gas

is.
He’s playing the best ball of his life right now. From what I can tell, he’s greatly limited his turnovers, and he’s more accurate than he’s ever been. Watch him during pre-game, and you might think he’s a standard pocket passer. Nope- I can almost guarantee that Landon will break out of a few would-be sacks and convert a few miraculous 1st-downs. Can’t wait to see what Landon and the Byron Center offense will be able to do!

I watched Landon in Byron Center’s in-season matchup against Mona Shores, and he did not have the best game. Back against the wall in very hostile territory against a super difficult opponent, Landon played lights-out.
Take a look at his District Finals Highlights. His first two highlights show great on-time passing to his receiver. The rest of his tape shows much of the same, alongside a couple of great instances of play action + rollouts. At 0:55, Landon showed off impressive pocket presence, spinning away from two defenders at the last moment.
These are some of the best highlights I’ve seen from Landon. There’s zero doubt in my mind that he’s improved as the season progressed. Keep playing like this, and he just might earn a GLIAC offer.
Either way, I’ve got Byron Center winning Regionals and Semis to get to the State Championship. A lot of my confidence comes from Landon playing the best football of his career.

Ok, yes, Landon did not have a good day. Getting this out of the way- but Landon had three bad interceptions, all in Mona Shores territory. It was a combination of pressure, Isaac being covered up, and luck.
There is some good that I can extract from Landon’s performance. For one, he’s still an elite playmaker. Landon has and continues to be excellent at evading pressure, getting out of would-be sacks, and giving a receiver a chance downfield. It’s also notable that Landon had a few carries, and he displayed surprising contact balance and overall power. On top of that, Landon has never come across as someone who hangs his head after a mistake. Short memory is required- Byron Center and Landon will still be a phenomenal playoff team.

Landon played a great game during Week 2 and I’m already seeing a lot of improvement from last season. First off, I like that Landon is getting the ball out quickly, much of the time from the pocket. Even when he does roll out of the pocket, it’s more often than not designed, and he still delivers a quick strike. As for accuracy, I’d call all of his highlights very accurate throws. Knowing he went 11/13 during this game, it’s safe to say that Landon was very accurate all night long.
Moving forward, I’d love to see many more performances like this. I’m impressed with Landon’s ability to pivot his play style and succeed in a more college recruiting-friendly play style.

Landon’s week 2 was unbelievably efficient. Of his 11 completions, 5 of them were touchdowns! His highlights show him able to be very mobile in the pocket and still setting his feet and delivering accurate deep balls and zinging short and intermediate routes into the chest. I think his ceiling is higher than I initially thought, so I am very excited to see what else he has up his sleeve for the rest of the season!
