Tate is currently a sleeper. Though I strongly believe he’s already on college radars, especially those in West Michigan. But if he doesn’t get recruited early on, expect me to be pounding the table for Tate.
Tate is a very competitive football player, but I honestly don’t know how colleges will view him this offseason.
Expectedly, Tate did well at yesterday’s tryout. At receiver, he’s a solid route-runner with good hands. Plus, he has a great frame, and he’s physical- making him an ideal X.
Tate shined on the defensive side of the football. I really, really liked his play at corner. Tate is patient, quick on his feet, and has very good ball skills- commonly swatting away passes with great precision. Combined with his physicality and competitiveness, I’d say Tate should be a GLIAC prospect.
I was hearing Tate’s name all night. Defensively, he was one of Byron Center’s best tacklers. He finished the game with 6 total tackles in addition to BC’s only TFL.
OLSM only threw the football 8 times, so I’d have to go back into the tape to see how Tate fared in pass coverage.
It’s a bit of a shorter evaluation, but I really like how Tate performed against an elite High School football program. He didn’t do anything mind-blowing, just great fundamentals and excellent effort. Tate has an opportunity to have his best offseason ever and take a MASSIVE step up next season.
I had heard a lot about Tate prior to this season. After watching him against Mona Shores, I completely get the hype. Here’s why I have him ranked as an elite D3 prospect.
Phenomenal two-sport athlete (baseball)
Seemingly natural football instincts
Fearless; attacks the football
Extremely versatile defender; could play OLB, S, DB in college
If Tate commits to football, no reason he couldn’t succeed at D2 level
