Expert Analysis
Rob Howe | Prep Redzone Scout
Athleticism and toughness stood out to me when I watched Rinnan play during a live scout at Iowa City West early last season. Those traits and others have had Rinnan operating as the J-Hawks’ starting quarterback during his first two prep seasons. He and the offense have experienced inconsistencies but could very well be ready for a significant step forward in 2025. Rinnan has the athleticism and football IQ to raise his consistency behind center. That mostly speaks to his throwing. He’s more impactful than many running backs carrying the ball. Rinnan rushed for 632 yards and six touchdowns last year. Arm strength isn’t holding him back, as you can witness on the opening clip of his 10th-grade highlight video. Keep watching to see plenty of potential.

I watched Rinnan perform in person at Iowa City West during the 2024 campaign. His athleticism and toughness were the qualities that stood out the most. Rinnan is a dual-threat that rushed for 632 yards and six touchdowns last fall. If he can take another step forward as a passer next season, Rinnan could raise his stock considerably. His speed and physicality could potentially play at a different position at the next level. No rush for such decisions today with two years of high school remaining, however. The potential is there behind center, as we see when watching his sophomore highlight video. He has a strong arm and a quick release. Consistency is the next hurdle to clear, and he has time on his side.

The young signal caller has taken a step forward after starting last season as a freshman. It starts with being more comfortable and stable behind center. His dual-threat ability keeps defenses honest and opens up the J-Hawk offense. He ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns in this game and hit some nice throws against a talented West back seven. The arm strength is present and accounted for. As he continues adding accuracy and getting a better feel for throwing receivers open, Rinnan should become even more effective.

should take another step forward as he returns for year two under center for the J-Hawks. Landon took over QB1 duties as a freshman and ended the year with 565 passing yards, 205 rushing yards, and five touchdowns. Landon is a quick decision-maker with the ball and flashes a fast release once he’s locked onto his target. Rinnan showed he could deliver the ball with touch and can place it where his receiver needed it. Very good at extending the plays with his legs and showed that he can bust out a long run if you don’t get to him quickly. Expect a big leap in Landon’s sophomore year!
