Makihele just picked up his first D-I offer from Old Dominion last week. San Marcos’ junior QB put together his best season in his third year as starter for the Knights, completing 70% of his passes for over 3,400 yards and 44 TDs with only 9 INTs as a junior. He’s a gifted passer with a live arm and a quick, natural release. Throws with accuracy to every area of the field and possesses all the physical tools to develop into a high-level distributor at the next level. Expect Makihele to continue to draw D-I offers and interest with the level of arm talent he offers.
After an amazing conversation with @CoachDeckODU i am truly blessed to say i received my first D1 scholarship offer to Old Dominion University!! #AG2G #GoMonarchs pic.twitter.com/3q0nz3Q3u9

Makihele’s putting together a bounce-back season after being limited by injury as a sophomore. The San Marcos junior QB has recorded nearly 1,000 passing yards and 14 TDs in the Knights’ 3-0 start to the season. He’s continued to show the arm talent, pocket mechanics, and accuracy to every area of the field that put him on the radar as a breakout freshman two seasons ago. He’s a smooth, efficient operator from the pocket, can push the ball downfield with a live arm, and shows impressive ball placement into tight windows over the middle of the field. Makihele’s one of the most underrecruited 2026 prospects in San Diego and should expect to see his recruiting stock rise significantly over the next several months with the skillset and upside he’s put on tape.

Makihele is an underrecruited pocket passer at 5’11” 185 lbs. He’s performed well and flashed being a two-year starter at San Marcos but has missed some time due to injury. A smooth athlete with an accelerated release allows him to get the ball out quick and on time. He shows great timing and anticipation to throw his receivers open at the short and intermediate levels. Throws a good ball with touch and trajectory, understands how to mix up velocities based on defender’s placement and window to be accurate while also throwing a catchable ball. Efficient footwork in the pocket, he’s quick to get into his drop and lands with a well-balanced throwing platform. Look for him to have a breakout junior season.
