About Khari
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I play with a physical, high-motor style. As a defensive end, I focus on using my size and quickness off the edge to pressure the quarterback and disrupt plays in the backfield. I take pride in being aggressive at the line of scrimmage, staying disciplined in my assignments, and finishing every snap with effort.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I approach the game with a competitive but coachable mentality. I’m disciplined, focused on improving every day, and I value preparation as much as performance. Off the field, I carry myself with humility, but on the field, I flip the switch and play with intensity and confidence.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Yes, I’ve been involved in programming and math enrichment through the Chicago Pre-College Science and Engineering Program (ChiS&E). I also am a youth board member of a nonprofit called Do More With Your Time®️ where we helped kids learn about entrepreneurship and start microbusinesses. In middle school, I maintained a 3.8 GPA and was recognized for academic achievement.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Football has helped me grow as both a leader and a teammate. I’ve learned how to communicate effectively on and off the field, stay accountable to my responsibilities, and put the team’s success above individual goals. Outside of sports, my experiences in academics and community service have taught me adaptability, discipline, and the importance of representing myself and my school with character.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
One challenge I’ve faced is adjusting to the demands of being both a student and an athlete at a highly competitive high school. Balancing family, workouts, practices, games, and volunteering with a strong academic workload has pushed me to improve my time management and discipline. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve learned how to stay focused, use my resources, and hold myself accountable.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a college that offers both high-level academics and a strong football program. I’m especially interested in schools with top engineering programs and the resources to support student-athletes in balancing academics with athletics. Programs like Georgia Tech, the University of Illinois, and Stanford stand out to me because they combine elite education with Division I competition.
