The ‘Hawks got the job done on Friday to secure the Region VIII-3A crown, and it was Kevon Rivera again who led the charge. Against a solid Beaufort run defense, Rivera broke loose for 237 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries. A strong and powerful back with quick cuts and lateral movement, Rivera’s paths downfield can be hard to anticipate. He’s even tougher to bring down in the open field with his ability to plow through tackles at 5-10 and 220 pounds. He’s a complete workhorse running back who will be a handful for anyone to stop in the postseason, and could make Hanahan a dark-horse threat to play deep into November.

The sparkplug of Hanahan’s strong offensive attack, Kevon Rivera went off on Friday to lead the Hanahan Hawks to a 49-13 Region VIII-3A victory over Battery Creek. Rivera was a force in the ground game, totaling 242 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries. The senior veteran has only gotten better as he continued his career as a Hawk, showing some excellent instinctiveness as a runner as well as tremendous power to drive through tacklers and spot open space downfield. He’s been a proven producer throughout his career and is saving his best play for last as he eyes a region championship this fall.

A difficult runner to bring down, Rivera has masterful agility to dodge tackles and the vision to spot holes ahead of the defense. A heavy and effective dose of Rivera both on the ground and through well-set screens will make the Hawks a difficult offense to stop come 2023.
